TOP DOGS GATHER IN HOUSTON

The Reliant Series of Dog Shows includes three of the biggest shows we seen in United States all year. This year like every year we have many of the top dogs in competition judge James Reynolds final included the Number One Dog, the Portuguese Water Dog, GCH CH Claircreek’s Impression de Matisse, and the Number Two Dog, the Old English Sheepdog, GCH CH Bugaboo’s Picture Perfect.

Joining them were the Clumber Spaniel, GCH CH Clussexx Over The Legal Limit, the Saluki, GCH CH Starlites Made Of The Best Stuff On Earth BN RN JC, the Scottish Terrier, GCH CH Kelwyns Gm Freestyle Flyer, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, GCH CH Forestcreek Louisiana Lagniappe, and the Bulldog, GCH CH Dowat The Gladiator. Thursday they would finish with the OES, Swagger, with the BIS, and the PWD, Matisse, with the RBIS. 

The win gives Swagger 46 BIS and 82 Group Ones this year and puts him, 2000 points closer to Mattise.

Sunday. Kenneth Buxtonw ould see it the same way, naming Trader his Best and the Beardie, Fawn,his Reserve. Rounding out the final were the same English Ssetter, GCH CH StargazeR N Wingfield Wait Wait Dont Tell, the Iriah Wolfhound. GCH CH Dun Myrica Doctor Gonzo Of Eagle, the same Russell and Shih Tzu, and the Bulldog, GCH CH Dulins Lord Of The Rings. The two wins makes Trader the Number Two Working Dog with13 BIS and 32 Working Groups.

Our last pre-op report comes in from Morristown NJ where the Lawrence Terricone closed the show week for the Twin Brooks Kennel Club. 

GCH CH McVan’s To Russia With Love 

The seven in the week’s last final were the ASCOB Cocker Spaniel, GCH CH Be-Fits N Arikara Too Hot To Touch, the Rhodesian Ridgeback, GCH CH Shabanis Johnnie Walker Blue, the Doberman Pincher, GCH CH Allure Playing With Fire, the Scottish Terrier, GCH CH McVan’s To Russia With Love, the Affenpinscher, GCH CH Yarrow’s Hi-Tech Ben There Done That, the Standard Poodle, GCH CH Unique Diamond In The Ruff, and the Rough Collie, GCH CH Milas Latin Fever. 

His BIS was the Collie, Cisco, and his RBIS, was the Scottie, Knopa. It was the first BIS in eight final appearances this year for Cisco.

SCHIPPERKE BEST IN WASHINGTON

GCH CH Wynsyr Tuff Enuff 

 Judge Sharon Derrick had the judges book at Sunday’s Timberland Valley Dog Fanciers Association show in Chehalis WA. The seven dogs that stayed all day to see her were the Weimaraner, GCH CH Calvary N Tripawds Footloose N Collar Free, the Afghan Hound, GCH CH Wynsyr Tuff Enuff, the Alaskan Malamute, GCH CH Peace Rivers Gathers No Moss At Sunstra, Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier, GCH CH Doubloons Extreme Play, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel , GCH CH Sheeba Express Delivery, the Schipperke, GCH CH Telstar The Way We Wanted It, and the Australian Shepherd, GCH CH Wind Spirit Rods Amazing Grace. 

 The two that stayed for photos were her BIS, the Schipperke, and her RBIS, the Afghan. It was the first for the year for the four year old Dog. Congratulations to breeder/owner Ronald D Rollins and owner Beth Burke.

POINTER PRODIGY IN CALIFORNIA

GCH VJK-Myst Garbonita's California Journey 

As much fun as it is to keep up with the Top Ten Dogs All Breeds, we love stumbling across a real breakout performance. On such dog is the German Shorthaired Pointer, GCH VJK-Myst Garbonita's California Journey, who picked up both the big rosettes at this weekend’s Cabrillo Kennel Club shows in Valley Center CA. It was made even more impressive by the fact that this was CJ’s first weekend out as a special. 

GCH CH Major Leagues Mighty Joe At Winsome 

Sunday’s win came under judge William Russell. Judge Russell also liked the French Bulldog, GCH CH Major Leagues Mighty Joe At Winsome, whom he gave the RBIS. Rounding out his seven were the Longhaired Dachshund, GCH CH Walmar-Solo’s IOU, the Doberman Pinscher, GCH CH Marienburg’s Special Ops Commando, the Cairn Terrier, GCH CH Hjohoo’s Save Hjour Love For Me, the Toy Poodle, GCH CH Sharbelle Little Boy Blue, and the Bearded Collie, GCH CH Dreamchaser Follow Your Dreams. In addition to the two BIS, 17 month old CJ already has five SBIS to his credit. We can’t wait to see this one.

KISHWAUKEE KENNEL CLUB

GCH CH Cambria’s Vraiment Parfait 

The Kishwaukee Kennel Club had the Saturday and Sunday spots in Belvidere IL this weekend. Judge Mary Anne Brocious took the Saturday final, considering the English Setter, GCH CH Stargazer’N Wingfield Wait Wait Don’t Tell, the 13” Beagle, GCH CH Shoreview’s Raise Your Glass, the Doberman Pinscher, GCH CH Cambria’s Vraiment Parfait, the Smooth Fox Terrier, CH J’Cobe Broxden Sharp Dressed Man, the Brussels Griffon, GCH CH Fist Face A Penny For Your Thoughts, the Tibetan Terrier, GCH CH Barnstorm To-Jo BEn Wicked @ Adominos By Dzine, and the Australian Shepherd, GCH CH McMatt’s Autumn Breeze. 

Her Best was the Doberman, Zsa Zsa. Her Reserve was the Beagle. It was the fifth BIS in 17 trips to the final ring this year or Zsa Zsa and handler Ann Ramsbottom-White.

 Zsa Zsa would make it back to the final ring on Sunday along with the same English Setter, Smooth Fox, & Tibetan Spaniel. Joining judge Paula Nykiel were the 15” Beagle, GCH CH Tashtins Lookin’ For Trouble, the Pomeranian, GCH CH Char’s Seattle Slew For Triple Crown, and the German Shepherd Dog, GCH CH Lockenhaus Rumor Has It V Kenlyn.

She would like the Beagle, Miss P, for her BIS and the GSD, Rumor, for her RBIS. Miss P is the country’s Number Three Hound with seven BIS and 33 Hound Groups.

The Shetland Sheepdog, GCH CH Thunderhill’s Apple Bottom Jeans, joined the back2Back BIS club with a win Sunday at the Roaring Forks Kennel Club show in Eagle CO. 

CH Solivia’s Dexterity At Skyhi 

Also vying for judge Arley Hussin’s favor were his RBIS, the Pointer, CH Solivia’s Dexterity At Skyhi, the Bloodhound, GCH CH Flessner’s International Space Station At Honidge, the Newfoundland, GCH CH Turftide’s Going The Distance CGC, the Miniature Bull Terrier, CH Vip’s I Know You Know At Albion, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, GCH CH Mtnvista Buffalo Bill Cody, and the Lhasa Apso, GCH CH El Minja’s Gyalwang. The two wins are the first of the year for the six year old bitch.

Judge Betsy Horn Hunter had the final at Sunday’s Battle Creek Michigan Kennel Club show in Marshall MI. The seven dogs in that final were the Curly-Coated Retriever, GCH CH Riverwatch Grand Illusion, the Afghan Hound, GCH CH Tells Matrix Reloaded, the Bullmastiff, CH Daneks Tribute To Leatherneck, the Kerry Blue Terrier, Kirkpatrick’s First Generation, the Havanese, GCH CH Qbin’s Strictly Confidential At Enginuity, the Chinese Shar-Pei, GCH CH Shine’s Deck the Halls, and the Bouvier des Flandres, GCH CH Stonepillar’s Steel Blu. 

GCH CH Riverwatch Grand Illusion 

BIS went to the Bouvier, Blue, and RBIS to the Curly Coat, Ariel. Blue is the nation’s Number One Bouvier des Flandres and Number Nine Herding Dog with three BIS and 24 Herding Groups.

GCH CH McVan’s to Russia with Love 

The Twinbrooks Kennel Club is in Morristown NJ for their two shows yesterday and today. At their Sunday opener judge Dr Elliot More saw the Flat-Coated Retriever, GCH CH Windsor’s Chairman Of The Board, the Rhodesian Ridgeback, GCH CH Shabanis Johnnie Walker Blue, the Boxer, Irondale’s Forty Shades of Green, the Scottish Terrier, GCH CH McVan’s to Russia with Love, the Chinese Crested, GCH CH Gingery’s Flashy Dancer Storytime, the Bulldog, GCH CH Rockydell Hotschott Sirius Dancer, Old English Sheepdog, GCH CH Bagatelle Rolling Moon Stone. 

The two going to the head of the line were the Scottie and the OES. The Scottie, Knopa, three very impressive BIS this year, including two over the Number One Dog All Breeds, and 22 Terrier Groups.

SETTER TWOFER IN VERMONT

GCH CH Weymouth’s En Fuego 

We hear a “polar vortex” will bring unseasonably cool temperatures to the nation’s northern state. However, New England exhibitors closed the four day set in Tunbridge VT with a perfect summer Sunday at yesterday’s Green Mountain Dog Club show. 


GCH DC Hallams Jake Of Arolet SC 

Judge Murrel Purkhiser saw the English Setter, GCH CH Weymouth’s En Fuego, the Pharaoh Hound, GCH DC Hallams Jake Of Arolet SC, the Samoyed, GCH CH Pebbles Run Play It Again Ham, the Airedale Terrier, GCH CH Joval Sweet Time, the Pug, GCH CH Hill Country’s Tag I’m It, the Chow Chow, GCH CH Chowlamar’s Rebelrun Mr Kidd, and the Briard, GCH CH Celebras Good Time Was Had By All. Repeating their Saturday wins were the Setter, Blaze, with the BIS and the Pharaoh Hound, Jake, with the RBIS. The win brings Blaze’s 2014 resume to nine BIS and 35 Sporting Groups, putting her in contention for the Number Two Sporting Dog in this very competitive.

It doesn’t take much of prodding to get most people to vacation in pristine Carmel CA, but if you throw in two BIS to sweeten the deal, well, who can resist? The Brittany, GCH CH Rainbow Splash’s Ruggedly Handsome, had started the week in his Texas, where he picked up two Group Ones and a RBIS, before moving to Carmel where he posted back2back BIS.

The latest came Sunday under judge Eric Ringle who considered the Basset Hound, GCH CH Topsfield-Sanchu Eenie Meenie Miney Moe, the Bullmastiff, GCH CH Baron Dye Of Ridgetop, the Pomeranian, GCH CH Mythical Traveling In Style, the Standard Poodle, GCH CH GCH Del Zarzoso Salvame From Afterglow, and the Puli, GCH CH Mt Hood's Leapin' Linni Of Tordor, before naming Beckett his BIS and the Puli, Linni, his RBIS. The Number Four Dog All Breeds returns home with 14 BIS and 44 Sporting Groups.

The nation’s Number Three Dog All Breeds, the Standard Poodle, GCH Dawin Hearts on Fire, left Mississippi a true Delta Darling, with four more BIS added to her resume. The latest came Sunday in the Memphis suburb of Southaven at the Greater Shelby Kennel Club show.

Joining Flame in judge Vern Harvey’s final were the English Springer Spaniel, GCH CH Telltale American Ride, the Irish Wolfhound, GCH CH Bainbridge Frank Sinatra, the Doberman Pinscher, GCH CH Rhapsody’s The End Is The Beginning CGC, the Bedlington Terrier, GCH CH First Class Willow Wind The Phoenix, the Smooth Coat Chihuahua, GCH CH Sonnus Filho (Sanchez), and the Reserve winner, the Cardigan Welsh Corgi, GCH CH Riverside Telltail Coco Posh. Flame is the Number One Non-Sporting Dog this year with 28 BIS and 73 Non-Sporting Groups.

 Over the past six years we have brought you our Monday Morning Mop Up from a variety venues, airport lounges, hotel rooms, & even New York’s Madison Square Garden. Today we are blogging from a hospital room while we await surgery tomorrow to repair our ten year old heart bypass. We had a busy show weekend and we will strive to get in all the reports between the interruptions by doctors, nurses, and hovering family members. 

GCH CH Thaon’s Wallstreet 

We start with a report on our Number Two Dog, the Old English Sheepdog, GCH CH Bugaboo’s Picture Perfect. Swagger spent the weekend in Duluth MN where he picked up two BIS and four Herding Group Ones. Sunday Swagger was judge Gene Blake’s BIS at the Duluth Kennel Club’s closer. 

 Swagger was challenged by the Golden Retriever, CH Forever’s All Jacked Up CGC, the RBIS, the Afghan Hound, GCH CH Thaon’s Wallstreet, the Rottweiler, GCH CH Gamegard I’ll Have Another V Braeside, the Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier, GCH CH Bryr Rose Phoenix Rising, the Pomeranian, GCH CH Katella’s Pressed and Mezherd Gold, and the Standard Poodle, Safaris This Side of Paradise.  Swagger is the winningest Old English Sheepdog in history with 45 BIS and 81 Herding Groups this year alone.

Judge Jocelyne Gagne closed the two day set in Woodstock VA for the Shawnee Kennel Club. His seven hopefuls were the Field Spaniel, GCH CH SandsCape Pardon Me Boys, the Scottish Deerhound, GCH CH Foxcliffe Chelsea Piers, the Standard Schnauzer, GCH CH Mistic's Longfellow Serenade, the Welsh Terrier, GCH CH Shaireab's Bayleigh Maid Of Honor, the Miniature Pinscher, CH KISA N Marlex Firestorm, the Tibetan Spaniel, CH Ambrier's Rokirk Whatever Lola Wants, and the Shetland Sheepdog, GCH CH Acadia Stage Presence.

The Portuguese Water Dog, GCH CH Claircreek’s Impression de Matisse, completed a perfect week in San Antonio TX, packing up his fourth big rosette of the stop.

Judge Charles Trotter also liked the Bichon Frise, GCH CH Saks Winning Card, who took home his second consecutive RBIS. Also making the final were the Golden Retriever, GCH CH Emerys In The Midnight Hour, the Borzoi, GCH CH Promises Crown Jewel Nicholas, the American Staffordshire Terrier, GCH CH Angarda Deja Vu Looking At You, the Papillon, GCH CH InVolo The King of Pop, and the Australian Shepherd, GCH CH Copperridge What’s Your Dream. 

The Number One Dog All Breeds finishes the week with 71 BIS and 92 Working Groups and a very big lead over the rest of the field.

PULI BEST IN PALM BEACH

 It may be off season in Palm Beach, but it’s always a good time to visit the tony southern Florida retreat. Judge Carolyn Herbel was there today to call the final of the Jupiter-Tequesta Dog Club. The seven who stayed all day to see her were the Irish Setter, GCH CH Militza's My Cherie Amour, the Rhodesian Ridgeback, GCH CH SpringValley's JoJo, the Doberman Pinscher, GCH CH Alpha's Magic Man CGC, the Skye Terrier, GCH CH Cragsmoor Good Time Charlie, the Pug, GCH CH Caper’s Sirius Endeavor, the Bichon Frise, Shkay's Show Me Another One, and the Puli, GCH CH Cordmaker Topsy Turvey. 

GCH CH Caper’s Sirius Endeavor 

Her BIS was the Puli, Charlotte, and her RBIS was the Pug, Rufus. Last year Charlotte won more Herding Groups than any other dog. So far this year Charlotte is the Number Two Herding Dog with seven BIS and 21 Herding Groups.

The Whippet, GCH CH Sporting Fields Shameless, made it two in a row, receiving the BIS from Norwegian breeder/judge Espen Engh at today’s Grand River Kennel Club show in Madison OH.

GCH CH Evergreen Good Intentions 

Competing for judge Engh’s attention were his RBIS, the Irish Setter, GCH CH Evergreen Good Intentions, the Newfoundland, GCH CH Cypress Bay's Big Sur, the Smooth Fox Terrier, GCH CH Absolutely Signature, the Italian Greyhound, GCH CH Gdm Zenyatta At Lakeside, the Standard Poodle, GCH CH ByRequest Bon Mot, and the Cardigan Welsh Corgi, GCH CH Dragonpatch Thunderstruck.

The two wins should be good enough to move Brazen into the Number Two Hound position with eight BIS and 37 Hound Groups/ The question is how close is she to a Top Ten All Breed berth?

The seven dogs judge Sandy Wheat saw in Saturday’s final were the German Shorthaired Pointer, GCH VJK-Myst Garvonit a California Journey, the Longhaired Dachshund, GCH CH Walmar-Solos IOU, the Standard Schnauzer, GCH CH Ogee Saltus Ze Zahrabske, the Scottish Terrier, GCH CH Roundtown Everyday Magic Of Maryscot, the Miniature Pinscher, GCH CH Blackswan Rising Star Forget Me Not, the French Bulldog, GCH CH Major Leagues Mighty Joe At Winsome, and the Australian Shepherd, Bayoulands Before The Storm. 

GCH CH Ogee Saltus Ze Zahrabske 

Best went to the GSP, CJ, Reserve to the Schnauzer, Ogee. It was CJ’s very first outing as a special. That’s what we call a very auspicious debut. Congratulations to breeder/owner/handler Valerie Nunes-Atkinson, breeder/owner Yvonne Hassler, co-breeder Anita Weiss, and owner Alice Manning.

Our Pacific Northwest offering this week is the Timberland Valley Dog Fanciers Association’s two shows in Chehalis WA. Judge Houston Clark had the Saturday final and his pick of the Golden Retriever, GCH CH Rush Hill’s Murder Mystery JH, the Harrier, GCH CH Pacific Happytail's Heartbreaker, the Bernese Mountain Dog, GCH CH Lavender Hills Summer In The City CGC, the Miniature Bull Terrier, GCH CH Cambria's Kid N Play, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, CH Sheeba Express Delivery, the Shiba Inu, GCH CH Kishis Kenji Tai-San Schisel, and the Belgian Tervuren, GCH CH Sky Acres Maximum Altitude.

He chose the Golden, Watson, as his Best, and the MiniBull, Kid, as his Reserve. It’s the second of the year for Watson and breeder/owner/handler Tonya Struble.

The Roaring Fork Kennel Club is in Eagle CO for the weekend and they asked judge Linda Scanlon to take the Saturday final. The seven dogs lining up for her were the Gordon Setter, GCH CH Amberlove’s Are We A Pair? JH, the Bloodhound, GCH CH Flessner’s International Space Station At Honidge, the Samoyed, CH Lols Ruby Red Sky O’Saratoga, the Wire Fox Terrier, CH Gravitas Mgk Bonita Del Mar, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, GCH CH Mtnvista Buffalo Bill Cody, the Lhasa Apso, An Tan Wu’s Johnny Depp, and the Shetland Sheepdog, GCH CH Thunderhill’s Apple Bottom Jeans.

Her top two were the Sheltie, Bindi, and the Wire Fox, Lainey. It was the first BIS of the year for Bindi. Congratulations to breeders/owners Michelle & Marty Miller and owner Anne Power.

The Shih Tzu, GCH CH Hallmark Jolei Rocket Power, renewed his supersonic summer with a BIS at Saturday’s Battle Creek Kennel Club show in Marshall MI.

Judge David Bolus might have chosen the Clumber Spaniel, GCH CH Nexus Roundhay Cmdr Adam Dalgliesh, his RBIS, the Afghan Hound, GCH CH Tells Matrix Reloaded, the Samoyed, GCH CH White Eagles The Sky’s The Limit For Alpineglo, the Russell Terrier, CH Baylock Heart Of Fire, the Chinese Shar-Pei, GCH CH Shine’s Deck the Halls, and the Bouvier des Flandres, GCH CH Stonepillar Steel Blu, but he didn’t. It was Rocket’s 14th BIS in 32 final appearances this year and his 12th BIS in the last six weeks.

FIRST EVER AKC DOUBLE HEADER

GCH CH Bayshore Giorgio Armani 

Many exhibitors and fanciers are not yet aware that AKC has authorized clubs to hold two shows on one day. The firsts clubs to do this were the Brookhaven Kennel Club and Riverhead Kennel Club who staged two shows Saturday in Yaphank NY, about 90 minutes from Manhattan on Long Island.

The Xoloitzcuintli, GCH CH Bayshore Giorgio Armani, made the most of the occasion, taking home both of the big rosettes. Joining Armani in Judge Hal Biermann’s BKC final in the AM were the Labrador Retriever, GCH CH Beechcroft Midnight Roses Baccara, the Saluki, GCH CH Quanmarra Thonolan, the Rottweiler, GCH CH Robbans Invincible CD, the Reserve winner, the Kerry Blue Terrier, GCH CH Class Act By Hallsblu, the Papillon, CH Cogar Riegel Old Time R N R, the Bearded Collie, GCH CH Classical’s My Turn CGC.

Also seeking judge Frish’s favor were the German Shorthaired Pointer, GCH CH Robin Crest Edelmarke Investigator, the Afghan Hound, GCH CH Exlysta Aries Ciel Noir, the Leonberger, GCH CH A Feiner Eros, the Brussels Griffon, St John’s Sireta, and the Rough Collie, GCH CH Milas Latin Fever. Getting the Reserve ribbon was the Afghan, Ryder. 

Armani is the nation’s Number One Xoloitzquintli and the Number Eight Non-Sporting Dog with five BIS and 19 Non-Sporting Groups this year.

The Number Two Dog All Breeds, the Old English Sheepdog, GCH CH Bugaboo’s Picture Perfect, is in Duluth MN where he added an RBIS to the BIS he has already collected there this weekend.

Judge Dana Cline’s BIS at Saturday’s Duluth Kennel Club show was the Pomeranian, CH Kartellas Pressed and Mezherd Gold. Rounding out his seven were the Irish Setter, GCH CH Tramore Notorious, the Afghan Hound, GCH CH Thaon's Wallstreet, the Rottweiler, GCH CH Gamegards I'll Have Another V Braeside, the Smooth Fox Terrier, CH Harewood Blackthorn Onyx, and the Bichon Frise, CH Heights Morse Code. It’s the first BIS for the Pom, Raja, who was RBIS at Friday’s DKC show. Congratulations to breeders/owners Kion & Maria Clark and handler Jana Klein.

The country’s Number One Dog All Breeds, the Portuguese Water Dog, GCH CH Claircreek’s Impression de Matisse, extended his lead over the field with his third BIS in San Antonio TX.

Joining Matisse in Dr Carmen Battaglia’s final at Saturday’s Comal County Kennel Club show were the Golden Retriever, GCH CH Emery’s In The Midnight Hour, the Rhodesian Ridgeback, GCH CH Raquel Welch of Malabo APD, the Wire Fox Terrier, GCH CH Garcini Rangels Rock N Rolla, the Chinese Crested, GCH CH Kaylens Kahlua, the RBIS, the Bichon Frise, GCH CH Saks Winning Card, and the Australian Shepherd, GCH CH Copperridge What’s Your Dream. 

 It was not only Matisse’s third straight BIS, it was his 70th BIS in 91 final appearances this year.
