DALLAS TX DAY TWO

The Black Cocker Spaniel, GCH CH Casablanca’s Thrilling Seduction, posted the back2back BIS today grabbing the top prize at the Texas Kennel club show.  Also trying to get judge David Miller’s attention were the Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen, GCH CH Jodell Bogie Back to Texas of MNM, the Kuvasz, GCH CH Szumeria's Wildwood Silver Six Pence, the American Staffordshire Terrier, GCH CH Alpine’s Ring of Fire, the Cavalier King Charles, GCH Miletree Northern Star at  Shirmont, the Bichon Frise, GCH CH Saks Hamelot Little Drummer Boy, and the Shetland Sheepdog, GCH CH Leeason Rock My Soul.

Beckham and handlers Linda & Michael Pitts are taking their peak game into next week’s big showdown in Orlando, with 67 all breed Bests this year, the most by any dog currently competing in the US.

FORSYTH KENNEL CLUB DAY ONE

Houston Clark was in the final ring for the Forsyth Kennel Club in Winston-Salem NC today.  The seven hoping to get the nod were the German Wirehaired Pointer, GCH CH Reece Afterhours The Buck Stops Here JH, the Rhodesian Ridgeback, GCH CH Whirlaways Ida Belle's A Ringing, the Rottweiler, GCH CH D Oro Solido's Feliciano Uno, the Norfolk Terrier, GCH CH Cracknor’s Cross the Ts, the Pekingese, GCH CH PalaceGarden Malachy, the Bulldog, GCH CH Hetherbull TopLine O-O, and the Australian Shepherd, GCH CH Brookridge Pop Secret.

The GWP, Truman, picked up his third big rosette of the year.  We expect this one to follow in the footsteps of his famous father, GCH CH Ripsnorter’s Mt View Lookout, the winningest GWP in history.

EASTERN DOG CLUB

The fun continued today in Providence RI with the Eastern Dog Club’s show.  William F Potter III had the call in today’s final and his pick of the English Setter, GCH CH Wyndswept Encore, the Whippet, GCH CH Starline’s Chanel, the Doberman Pinscher, GCH CH Mi-Ti’s Three Cheers,  the American Staffordshire Terrier, GCH CH Castle Rock's SBigStaff Mad About You, the Affenpinscher, GCH CH Banana Joe v Tani Kazari, the Miniature Poodle, GCH CH Surrey Sugar Baby, and the Bearded Collie, GCH CH Tolkien’s Raintree Mister Baggins.

Best went to the Affenpinscher, Joey, the nation’s Number Five Dog All Breeds.  Joey’s 32nd BIS of the year will keep things interesting in the Top Five for another week.

 Fanciers in the Sunshine State were in Miami for today’s Greater Miami Dog Club show.  Barbara Dempsey Alderman’s stellar seven were the English Cocker Spaniel, GCH CH Edgewood Casino Celebrity, the Whippet, GCH CH Karasar’s Masterpiece, the Boxer, GCH CH Winfall Brookwood Styled Dream, the Skye Terrier, GCH CH Buddy Goodman, the winner of Thursday’s Toy Dog Club of South Florida limited breed show, the miniature Pinscher, GCH CH Marlex Classic Red Glare, the Standard Poodle, GCH CH Dacun Kaylen’s He’s a Heart Breaker, and the Australian Shepherd, GCH CH Equinox Ad Astra.

Her BIS was the Skye, Buddy.  Buddy, the winningest Skye Terrier in AKC history, has amassed  106 Terrier Groups this year, 40 more than any other Terrier.  He also has 16 BIS this season.  You do remember the AKC/Eukanuba National Championship is in Florida this year?

We have a report from yesterday’s Shoreline Dog Fanciers Association Of Orange County show in Costa Mesa CA.  Martin D Doherty’s seven finalists are among the nation’s Top 100 Dogs All Breed, the English Setter, GCH CH Oakley's Bedazzled, the Harrier, GCH CH Downhome HiTech Innovator the Boxer, GCH CH Conquest-Rosend's New Kid In Town, the Wire Fox Terrier, GCH CH Steele Your Heart, the Brussels Griffon, CH CH Cashncross First Griff Tina Fey, the Standard Poodle, GCH CH  Brighton Lakeridge Encore, and the Pembroke Welsh Corgi, GCH CH Segni at Coventry.

His BIS was AKC’s Number Four Dog, the Standard Poodle, Ally.  Although we have three Non-Sporting dogs in our Top Ten, It seems certain that Ally will finish the year as the country’s Number One Non-Sporting dog with 44 all breed Bests.

The Greater Collin Kennel Club got the all breed action going in Dallas TX yesterday.  Rita Bell’s final featured three of our Top Ten Dogs All Breeds, Number One, the Black Cocker Spaniel, GCH CH Casablanca’s Thrilling Seduction, Number Seven, the Kuvasz, GCH CH Szumeria's Wildwood Silver Six Pence, and Number Ten, the Bichon Frise, GCH CH Saks Hamelot Little Drummer Boy.  They were joined by the Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen, GCH CH Jodell Bogie Back to Texas of MNM, one of our newest DOGS2WATCH, the Norwich Terrier GCH CH Skyscot's Texas Hold 'Em, the Italian Greyhound, GCH CH Everafter Best Bet Yet, and the Cardigan Welsh Corgi, GCH CH Aubrey's Tails of Mystery.

Picking up his 66th BIS of the year was the Cocker, Beckham.  The Number One Dog n the country will take a commanding lead into next weekend’s big dance in Orlando, the AKC/Eukanuba National Championship.

BEARDIE BACK2BACK IN PROVIDENCE

The Bearded Collie, GCH CH Tolkien Raintree Mister Baggins, is now the undisputed leader of the Herding Group, taking the lead in all breed points with consecutive BIS yesterday & today at the Ladies Dog Club show in Providence RI.  

Also vying for Mary Ann Alston’s attention were the English Setter, GCH H Wyndswept’s Encore, the Greyhound, GCH CH GrandCru Clos Erasmus, the Bullmastiff, GCH CH Highpoint‘s Fifth Wheel Don‘t Blink, the Lakeland Terrier, CH Larkspur Acadia Save Me a Spot, the Affenpinscher, GCH CH Banana Joe V Tani Kazari., and the Miniature Poodle, GCH CH Surrey Sugar Baby.

Roy and handler Cliff Steel had lead the Herding Group all year in the number of groups won.  Today’s Group One is their 107th.  Roy is the winningest Beardie in AKC history with 74 career BIS, 26 of which have come this year, four in the last seven days.  Now that’s sprinting to the finish line.

The Greater Hickory Kennel Club joined the fray today with the first of three shows in Winston-Salem NC this weekend.  BIS judge Robert Shreve gathered together the German wirehaired Pointer, GCH CH Reece Afterhours The Buck Stops Here JH, the Irish Wolfhound, GCH CH Desert Dune At Curiann, the Samoyed, GCH CH Ala-Kasam's Spirit Of Adventure, the Norfolk Terrier, Cracknor’s Cross the Ts, the Pekingese, GCH CH PalaceGarden Malachy, the Boston Terrier, GCH CH Mejo’s Savannah Gambler, and the Australian Shepherd, GCH CH Myshara;s Dream Girl.

His Best was the Number Two Dog All Breeds, the Peke, Malachy.  We hope that you have had an opportunity to see Malachy and owner/handler David Fitzpatrick this year while they have been criss-crossing the US collecting 48 all breed Bests.  There’s only one more weekend to go in this show season.

Great Lakes fanciers gathered in Wheaton IL for yesterday’s Starved Rock Kennel Club show, the first of four in the Chicago area this week.  Top dogs  from all over the nation braved the threat of winter weather, scrambling for the last available points of the year. 

Sharon Krogh’s seven hopefuls were the German Wirehaired Pointer, GCH CH Mt. View's Ripsnorter Silver Charm, the Pharaoh Hound, GCH CH Northgate’s As You Like It, the Doberman Pinscher, GCH CH Cambria's Must Be Fate, the Smooth Fox Terrier, GCH CH Waybroke Broxden Turning Tanner, the Japanese Chin, GCH CH Pem Wy-Syng Lucky Mi, the Standard Poodle, GCH CH Jaset’s Satisfaction, and the Bouvier des Flandres, GCH CH Frontier's License To Carry At Margaux.

Her Best In Show was the Swedish import, the Pharaoh Hound, Qing.  Qing, currently a Texas resident, is the nation’ Number Nine Dog All Breeds with 33 BIS and 120 Hound Groups this year.

Our next to last show weekend of the year got underway in Providence RI today.  Rick Gschwender had the judge’s book for today’s Middlesex County Kennel Club final and a powerhouse final consisting of the English Setter, GCH H Wyndswept’s Encore, the Whippet, GCH CH Starline’s Chanel, the Samoyed, GCH CH McMagic's Candied Ham Of Pebblesrun, the Lakeland Terrier, CH Larkspur Acadia Save Me a Spot, the Pekingese, GCH CH PalaceGarden Malachy, the Miniature Poodle, GCH CH Surrey Sugar Baby, and the Bearded Collie, GCH CH Tolkien Raintree Mister Baggins.

Picking up the first big rosette of the week was the Bearded Collie, Roy.  Roy and handler Cliff Steele have been busy updating their 2011 resume with three all breed BIS in the last six days.  Santa, are you impressed?  We are.

AVOID THE CHRISTMAS RUSH


There are but two more weeks left in the year for our top dogs to secure their final spot in the national rankings.  This week There are four show clusters on both coasts and in the Great Lakes region to help exhibitors bolster their 2011 resume.

In New England, point hungry competitors will gather in Providence RI for the Middlesex County Kennel Club, the Ladies' Dog Club, & the Eastern Dog Club’s four shows starting tomorrow.  In Southern California the Shoreline Dog Fanciers Association Of Orange County & the Malibu Kennel Club will kick off their four show set on Friday in Costa Mesa.  Chicago area fanciers will split the four days between Starved Rock Kennel Club’s Thursday/Friday shows in Wheaton IL & the Skokie Valley Kennel Club‘s Saturday/Sunday stand in Rosemont IL.

There are more multiple show offerings elsewhere.  The Greater Hickory Kennel Club & the Forsyth Kennel Club will kick off their three shows in Winston-Salem NC on Friday and the Greater Collin Kennel Club, the Texas Kennel Club, & the Trinity Valley Kennel Club will preface their three shows in Dallas TX with the North Texas Terrier Club’s limited breed show of Thursday.

Toy dog owners can combine limited breed shows with all breed competition both in Miami FL where the Toy Dog Club Of South Florida Friday show will be the warm up for the Greater Miami Dog Club two weekend shows.  Out in Ridgefield WA the Willamette Toy Dog Fanciers will double down offering limited breed shows both on Thursday & Friday to introduce the Greater Clark County Kennel Club’s weekend fare.   Finally there is a traditional two day weekend with he Granite City Kennel Club Of St Cloud, Minnesota  in, where else,     St Cloud MN.

All of this leads up to the big final weekend of the year and the AKC/Eukanuba National Championship in Orlando FL on December 17th & 18th.  It’s a record entry with almost 3700 dogs in the regular classes, far and away the largest of the year.    This weekend may be your last to see the top dogs in your area.  It also may be a chance to see next year's top dogs.  Just check out our most recent additions to our DOGS2WATCH list.   Come on, you know you need a break from the mall & the Christmas shopping crush.  An AKC dog show is just the ticket to put you in a holiday mood.

MONDAY IN YUMA AZ

The four day weekend ended yesterday in Yuma AZ with the day two show of the Imperial Valley Kennel Club.

Jeannette McGinnis had the last final of the week and her pick of the English Setter, GCH CH Oakley’s B’Dazzled, the Bloodhound, GCH CH Quiet Creek’s Kiss and Tell, the Boxer, GCH CH R and G’s Mystical Dancer, the Norfolk Terrier, GCH CH Max-Well’s Rainbow, the Pekingese, GCH CH PalaceGarden Malachy, the French Bulldog, GCH CH Coco Vialatte Robobull Hot Flash, and the Bearded Collie, GCH CH Tolkien Raintree Mister Baggins.

Picking up his 72nd career BIS and his second of the week was the Beardie, Roy.    Roy and handler Cliff Steele have made the race for Number One Herding Dog the most closely contested group race in AKC, with 24 all breed Bests and 106 Herding Groups this year.

Our final stop of the day is up Chicago way in Kanakee IL for a report on the Kanakee River Valley Kennel Club’s two shows. 

Christina Hubbell had the Saturday final and the Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever, GCH CH Pikkinokka's Lightning Bug, the Basset Hound, GCH CH Fort Merrill Topsfield Yahoo, the Boxer, GCH CH Katandy's Fast Forward, the Airedale Terrier, GCH CH Epoch's Time Bandit, the Yorkshire Terrier, CH Nealstar's D'Light Her With Diamonds, the Standard Poodle, Ellgi's Wait Minuet, and the Old English Sheepdog, GCH CH Lambluv's Gambolon Blue Thunder.

It was the NSDTR, Flash, picking up his very first all breed BIS.  Congratulations to breeders Wayne McCarthy & Mathilde A Niquidet, owners Stacy Einck-Paul & & Nancie Mages, and handler Don Powell.

Sunday, Flash would be back to see BIS judge Richard Lashbrook along with the Ibizan Hound, DC GCH CH Alisian Fields Epic Gyrl From Ipanema, the Boxer, CH Nantess Royal Hot Rod, the above named Airedale, the Shih Tzu, GCH CH Ista's Hurricain Chaser, the Standard Poodle, CH Dobry He's My Boy, and the aforementioned OES.

His choice was the Boxer, Reggie.  It’s the second this year for Reggie and breeder/owner/handler Tessie Savage .

EDWARDSVILLE IL KC DAY TWO

On Sunday, Frank Sabella was in the final ring with the German Wire haired Pointer, GCH CH Mt. View's Ripsnorter Silver Charm, the Longhaired Dachshund, GCH CH Hundeleben Queen's Armada Sl, the CH Sapphires Violet Sky In Vegas Of Streamline, the Chinese Crested, CH Whisperlane Shouldve Been A Cowboy,  the Cairn Terrier, Hampton Court’s Ringmaster, the Schipperke, GCH CH Dante Fire When Ready HOF, and the Smooth Collie, CH Calibre's Key To The Fortune.

His Best In Show was the Boxer, Zoey.  It’s the first for this rapidly rising two year old.  Congratulations to breeder Shelly Williams and owners Donald M Young & Joleena Young & Gina Freer & Charles Freer.

Our lone southern offering this weekend was in the beach town of Gulfport MS with the Mississippi Gulf Coast Kennel Club.   Saturday’s final found Gene Blake mulling over the Brittany, GCH CH Dual Lanes Cam, the Whippet, CH Karasars Remembrence, the Akita, CH Cas Cobo Haul Eudora, the Bedlington Terrier, Wrightwyns Power Play, the Maltese, GCH CH Rhapsody’s Regarding Henry, the Chinese Shar-Pei, GCH CH Chaoyang Best Of My Love At Asia, and the Australian Shepherd, GCH CH Myshara’s Dream Girl.

He chose the nation’s Number One Australian Shepherd, Beyonce, as his best.  Beyonce and handler Jamie Klute have seven BIS this year, three in the last five weeks.

Macica Feld had the judge’s book on Sunday and her pick of the same seven, save one, the Pharaoh Hound, GCH CH Nothgate’s As You Like It.   Her Best was the Maltese, Henry.  It’s the first BIS this year for the country’s Number One Maltese all systems.  Congratulations to breeder/owner/handler Tonia Holibaugh and owners Katherine Kasten, Paula Bailly, & A Stoller.

Our next report comes in from Conroe TX where the hometown Conroe Kennel Club treated residents to two shows.  They ended Saturday with Angela Porpora pondering a choice from the German Shorthaired Pointer, GCH CH Fieldfine's Pure Gold CGC TDI, the Pharaoh Hound, GCH CH Northgate's As You Like It, the Kuvasz, GCH CH Szumeria's Wildwood Silver Six Pence, the Staffordshire Bull Terrier, CH Challenger's Honky Tonk Man, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, GCH CH Miletree Northern Star At Shirmont, the Bichon Frise, GCH CH Saks Hamelot Little Drummer Boy, and the Cardigan Welsh Corgi, GCH CH Aubrey's Tails Of Mystery.

Sunday, the Kuvasz & the Corgi would return to see judge Jan Paulk along with the Sussex Spaniel, CH Hilands Happy Highwayman, the Petit Bassett Griffon Vendeen, GCH CH Jodell's Boogie Back To Texas Of MNM, the Scottish Terrier, CH Kelwyn's Toast Of The Town, the Blenheim & Prince Charles English Toy spaniel, GCH CH Royalist Read to Reign, and the Chow, Bella's Lonestar Man About Town.

She chose the winningest Kuvazs in history, Tanner.  Tanner is the Number Two Working Dog and the Number Seven Dog All Breeds, with 18 BIS and 65 Working Group Firsts.

BACK2BACK BIS IN VALLEJO CA

The big news out on the West Coast was the back2back BIS in Vallejo CA by the Number One Non-Sporting Dog, the Standard Poodle, GCH CH Brighton Lakeridge Encore.  Ally and handler Taffee McFadden took home both the top prizes at this weekend’s Santa Cruz Kennel Club & Kennel Club Of Salinas shows.

On Saturday, Ally & Taffee charmed Patricia Taylor while the Weimaraner, GCH CH Silhouette’s LifeInTheFastLane, the Smooth Dachshund, GCH CH Sausage staples History in the Makking SS, the Doberman Pinscher, GCH CH Caryola’s Antigua, the American Staffordshire Terrier, GCH CH Alpine’s Highwayman, the Toy Fox Terrier, GCH CH Centennial Farms 2 Good 2B True, and the Bouvier des Flandres, GCH CH Hatch Tillie De La Salsa, looked on.

Sunday Norm Patton preferred Ally to the same Weimaraner, the Afghan Hound, GCH CH Mahali Arriva Meadowlark, the Alaskan Malamute, GCH CH Catanya’s Latin Lover, Saturday finalist the Amstaff, the Pekingese, GCH CH Windemere's Dusting Of White At Pevyne, and the Cardigan welsh Corgi, CH Chaps Smokin Woodsy Bry'r.

That brings to five the number of BIS Taffee has put on Ally since taking over from regular handler Tim Brazier who is recovering from bypass surgery.  The question is, “Is Ally’s 43rd BIS good enough to keep her the Number Four Dog All Breeds?”

THREE DAYS IN YUMA AZ

It’s been raining for two days here in Memphis, making our Monday Morning Mop Up a double entendre.  We are going to start out in Yuma AZ where the four day set that began on Friday drew competitors from all over the country.

Nancy Simmons had the first day final for the Yuma Kennel Club.  Her well traveled seven were the German Shorthaired Pointer, GCH CH Shortales N Cahoots W Irondale JH, the Saluki, GCH CH Shatani Ivory Moon SC, the Samoyed, GCH CH Glacier’s n Rowdy’s Czargent Trouble, the Wire Fox Terrier, GCH CH Steele Your Heart, the Pekingese, GCH CH PalaceGarden Malachy, the Dalmatian, GCH CH Kastle’s Go Speed Racer, and the Australian Cattle Dog, GCH CH Carben Coy’s If the Shoe Fits.

Taking home the first big rosette of the set was the Wire Fox from Southern California, Eira.  Eira and handler Gabriel Rangel have pushed hard these last few months picking up 12 of their 16 BIS in the last three months.

On day two James Ham was in for the YKC and saw the above named GSP, the Bloodhound, GCH CH Quiet Creek’s Kiss and Tell, the Great Dane, GCH CH Naples Tlbrk Dana Roques Naika, the Norwich Terrier, GCH CH Waiterock Jack Falstaff, the previously mentioned Peke, the French Bulldog, GCH CH Highwood’s Big Shot, and the Bearded Collie, GCH CH Tolkien Raintree Mister Baggins.

It was the Beardie from New England taking home the BIS.  It’s Roy’s 71st career BIS, a breed record, and his 23rd BIS of the season.  Roy is the Herding Group leader this year with 105 Group Ones.

The Imperial Valley Kennel Club took over on Sunday and put Dorothy MacDonald in the final ring with the aforementioned GSP, Bloodhound, & Peke, the Boxer, GCH CH Rand G’s Mystical Dancer, the Keeshond, GCH CH Parrkees Cruisin for a Bruisin, and the Australian Shepherd, GCH CH Melody’s Night Moves at Baywind.

Her choice for Best was the Peke from Pennsylvania, Malachy.  Malachy is the Number One Toy Dog and the Number Two Dog All Breeds with 47 BIS this year.

The hometown Savannah Kennel Club wrapped it up today with Robert Sharp choosing his BIS from the Black Cocker Spaniel, GCH CH Casablanca’s Thrilling Seduction, the American Hound, GCH CH Kiarry‘s Foolish Pride, the Boxer, GCH CH Winfall Brookwood Styled Dream, the Norfolk Terrier, GCH CH Cracknor's Cross the Ts, the Pug, GCH CH Caper’s Sirius Endeavor, the Dalmatian, GCH CH Spotlight‘s Ruffian, and the Pembroke Welsh Corgi, GCH CH Dalarno Nite Song At Morningstar.

Capping the big weekend with a big rosette was the Norfolk, Plum.  Plum and handler Roxanne Sutton have battled their way through some very tough competition this year to grab seven BIS & 49 Terrier Groups.

The Ingham County Kennel Club finished up their two days in East Lansing MI with Shelley Hennessy in the final ring.   Her companions were the English Springer Spaniel, GCH CH Ocoee Dsqd With A Vengeance, the Greyhound, CH Gaia’s Elfin Dance, the Doberman Pinscher, GCH CH Protocol‘s Veni Vidi Vici, the Bedlington Terrier, GCH CH Kaylynn’s Party Crasher, the Italian Greyhound, GCH CH Viva-Anji‘s St Michael, the Dalmatian, CH Mt Bryton‘s Covert Operative, and the Smooth Collie, GCH CH C and J Silver Charm of Chrysalis.

It was the Dal, Stealer, taking home the heavy silver.  Though he is a multi group winner, this is the first all breed Best for the five year old.  Congratulations to breeder/owner Cheryl Bartell.

GCH CH De LaMer Pink Flamingo

Robert Slay had the closer today in Fitchburg MA for the Worcester County Kennel Club.  His seven hopefuls were the Gordon Setter, GCH CH Windcrest Take It To The Limit, the Borzoi, GCH CH Raynbo’s Run for the Roses, from the 9 to 12 Month Puppy dog class, the Doberman, Shatera‘s Foru Star General Patton, the Lakeland Terrier, CH Larkspur Arcadia Save Me a Spot, the Pug, GCH CH Foursquare I'll Be A Shostopa Tu, the Schipperke, GCH CH De LaMer Pink Flamingo, and the Belgian Tervuren, CH Mishaook’s Lulu at Chateau Blanc.

Best was the Schipperke, Pink.  Pink won her first BIS in 2007 at just 12 months old.  This her first this year.  We suspect that there are many to follow.  Congratulations to breeders Krista J Nuovo & John Penatello and owner Carol Gundel Falk.
