NUMBER 2 CLOSING ON NUMBER 1

We have all the numbers in from last week’s shows and as we predicted we saw some shake up in the rankings.  Three weeks ago the Number One Dog, the Wire Fox Terrier, GCH CH AfterAll Painting the Sky, was sitting on a 12,000 point lead.  However, the Number Two Dog, the Portuguese Water Dog, GCH CH Claircreek’s Impression de Matisse, has cut that lead in half with big wins in Houston TX, Greenville SC, and Canfield OH.  Sky and handler Gabriel Rangel got an early start this week and are currently at the Adirondack Circuit’s opener in Ballston Spa NY today.  We will wait and see if Sky stays for all five shows or adjourns to Harrisburg PA on Friday to take advantage of the larger entry.

Our Number Three Dog, the Miniature Pinscher, GCH CH Marlex Classic Red Glare, opened up an 18,000 point lead on the rest of the field with three BIS in Salem VA last weekend.  However, the rest of our Top Twenty is very fluid.  The Giant Schnauzer, GCH CH Kenro’s Witching Hour, collected a big BIS in Canfield last weekend, to move past her kennelmate, the German Wirehaired Pointer, GCH CH Mt View’s Ripsnorter Silver Charm, in to the Number Four Spot, leaving the GWP, Oakley, in a virtual tie for Number Five Dog, with the American Foxhound, GCH CH Kiarry’s Pandora’s Box.

The rest of our Top Ten all managed to post at least one Best In Show each this past week.  Number Seven, the Clumber Spaniel, GCH CH Clussexx Collaboration with Traddles, and the Number Eight Dog, the Russell Terrier, GCH CH Goldsands Columbus, were both in Marshall MI for the four day set.  The Clumber, Seymour, left town with two big rosettes and the Russell, Bosse, added one more BIS to his 2013 resume.  The Number Nine Dog, the Great Dane, GCH CH Longo Miller N Lore’s Diamond Lil, was in Salem VA where she collected two BIS.  Finally, the Irish Water Spaniel, GCH CH Whistlestop’s Riley on Fire, held on to her Number Ten spot with a BIS in New Hampshire.

We have but 21 all breed shows this week in eight different locations.  Normally when we have so few shows we will see big points everywhere, but this week there are only two sites that will see more than 1000 dogs competing, Harrisburg PA, where Saturday’s Penn Ridge Kennel Club show will draw around 1500 dogs competing, and Lacey WA where Saturday’s Nisqually Kennel Club show should make the 1000 dog ante.   We don’t expect to see a change in our Top Five this week, but we won’t bet our lunch money.  Check in with us regularly and we will tell you how it’s all shaking out.
