NEBRASKSA & NEW MEXICO NEWS

GCH CH Daniel Boon Pelaez

Before we turn our attention to today’s shows, including the Devon Dog Show Association’s Terrier  heavy event, let’s tell you about life Friday outside the Terrier universe.

GCH CH Cumhil Hell Raiser

The Cornhusker Kennel Club capped their day two show with Arley Hussin in the final ring with the Vizsla, Jakras Flirtin with Fifty Shades, the 15” Beagle, GCH CH Daniel Boon Pelaez, the Bullmastiff, GCH CH Newcastle's Blame it on the Sun, the Staffordshire Bull Terrier, GCH CH Cumhil Hell Raiser, the King Charles & Ruby English Toy Spaniel, GCH CH LTO Prosperity, the Chinese Shar-Pei, GCH CH Vaje's Jethrene Bodine, and the Australian Shepherd, CH Copperridge What's Your Dream.

GCH CH Bugaboo’s Picture Perfect

We don’t get too many dog shows in the Land of Enchantment, but this week the Chaparral Kennel Club and the Mesilla Valley Kennel Club have teamed up to host the four show Chile Bowl cluster in Alamogordo NM.  The CKC kicked things off, spicing up the final with judge Lewis Bayne considering the Clumber Spaniel, GCH CH Clussexx Collaboration with Traddles, the Whippet, GCH CH Cottonwood Versace at Coreymore, the Great Dane, GCH CH Naples Tlbrk Dana Sanroque Cause and Effect, the Miniature Bull Terrier, GCH CH Dytona VIP, the Affenpinscher, GCH CH Tamarin Tarheel, the French Bulldog, Bayou Ridge Hillsman Cocoa Bean At Homewood, and the Old English Sheepdog, GCH CH Bugaboo’s Picture Perfect.

Judge Bayne’s Best was the young OES, Swagger, and his Reserve was the even younger, 11 month old Frenchie.  The country’s Number One Herding Dog has started rolling up the BIS, collecting five of his 15 BIS this year in three weekends.

The country’s Number One Dog All Breeds, the Wire Fox Terrier, GCH AfterAll Painting the Sky, has become the latest dog to reach that coveted career milestone, 100 BIS, by taking today’s top prize at the Hatboro Dog Club show in Wrightstown PA.

The win was accomplished in grand style, at a show with more than 1000 Terriers entered.   Before Sky could even face her all breed opponents, she had to fight her way out of a Terrier Group that saw most of the US’ top Terriers competing.  Judge Vandra Huber gave her runner up spots to the Russell Terrier, GCH CH Goldsands Columbus, the Lakeland Terrier, GCH CH Terrydale Fortune Forward, and the Border Terrier, GCH CH Meadowlakes Pants on Fire.

GCH CH Tells Matrix Reloaded

In Desmond Murphy’s final, Sky and handler Gabriel Rangel faced more top ranked competition, the English Springer Spaniel, CH Cerise Sentinel, the RBIS, the Afghan Hound, GCH CH Tells Matrix Reloaded, the Siberian Husky, GCH CH Snowfire’s Holy Moses, the Papillon, GCH CH Wildfire On The Record, the Standard Poodle, GCH CH Del Zarzoso from Afterglow, and the Shetland Sheepdog, GCH CH Acadia Stage Presence.

In addition to hitting the 100 career BIS mark, the win, Sky’s 61st of 2013, makes it all but a certainty that Sky will be the Number One Dog All Breeds at year end.  Congratulations to Gabriel, breeders A J Pertuit Jr & Betty Seton, and owners Victor Malzoni,  Torie Steele, Mary & Scott Olund & Diane Ryan.

HATBORO HAPPENING

Today’s Hatboro Dog Club lived up to all of the advance press.  Sunny skies prevailed and a huge entry of Skyes showed up.  In fact, almost 1000 Terriers showed up, including every one of the Top Ten Terriers.

Judge Keke Kahn’s final included three of the country’s Top Five Dogs All Breeds, the Number One Dog, the Wire Fox Terrier, GCH CH AfterAll Painting the Sky, the Number Two Dog, the Portuguese Water Dog, GCH CH Claircreek’s Impression de Matisse, and the Number Five Dog, the American Foxhound, GCH CH Kiarry’s Pandora’s Box.  Rounding out the final were the Black Cocker Spaniel, GCH CH Mario n Beechwoods Midnight Express, the Toy Fox Terrier, GCH CH Dejavu’s Big Dog Daddy, the Standard Poodle, GCH CH Luminary Black Velvet Bejeweled with Pearls, and the German Shepherd Dog, GCH CH Pine Hill’s Payday of Hayshill.

Finishing one/two were the nation’s one and two, the Wire Fox, Sky, and the Portie, Matisse.  Not only did Sky have to face Top Ten competition in the BIS ring, she had to get past several of the nation's Top Terriers in the group.  Finishing Group Two was AKC's Number Two Terrier and Number Seven Dog All Breeds, the Russell Terrier, GCH CH Goldsands Columbus.  Group three was theNumber Five Terrier, the Norfolk Terrier, GCH CH Yarrow’s Venerie Ticket to Ride, and Group Four was the Number Nine Terrier, the Airedale Terrier, GCH CH Joval Angel’s Whisper.

It was Sky’s 99th career BIS and her 60th this year.  More importantly, the win gives Sky a likely insurmountable of over 14,000 points on the rest of the field.  Is a Christmas miracle possible?

IT'S TERRIER TIME!

I’m here in suburban Philadelphia PA going over my Terrier statistics in anticipation of today’s Terrier Week kick off, the day one show of the Hatboro Dog Club.  Yes, it is an all breed show, a big all breed show with over 1900 entries…of which over 1000 are Terriers.  And the Terrier counts just keep getting bigger, culminating in Sunday’s Terrier Super Bowl, the Montgomery County Kennel Club show with 1662 Terriers entered.  To put that in perspective, that’s bigger than the Terrier entry at 22 average all breed shows combined.  No other group can boast that kind of participation.

Many of you have gone to shows all year long and have not seen a single Sky Terrier, Sealyham Terrier, or Glen of Imaal Terrier.  There are 67 Glen of Imaal, 48 Sealyhams, and 112 Skyes entered at Sunday’s MCKC show.  While you even the casual dog lover is familiar with the Cairn, Scottish, and West Highland White Terriers, you can be sure they never saw 115 Cairns, 132 Scotties, or 114 Westies gathered in one place.  No other show this side of the Atlantic can boast such a following, Not the Westminster Kennel Club, not the AKC/Eukanuba National Championship, not any other fine marquee shows in the US.  One can see that why Terrier aficionados consider the Montgomery County Kennel Club show the Hajj of Dogdom, a must do pilgrimage for the Terrier true believer.

GCH CH Shaireab Bayleigh Maid of Honor

Anyone following this year’s all breed race knows that the nation’s Number One Dog is a Terrier,  the Wire Fox Terrier, GCH CH AfterAll Painting the Sky.  Sky might have been the favorite at last year’s MCKC show had she not been prevented from competing when her breeder, Dr Al Pertuit, was chosen to be the Wire Fox breed judge.  This year she has no such prohibition.  What she does have is substantial competition in the breed where the BIS winning Wire Fox dog, GCH CH Crispy Legacy, could possibly pay the spoiler.  Once again the breed judge will be from England, Andrew Goodsell.  Should Sky make it out of the breed, she will face plenty of competition.

GCH CH Allaruth Just Kidding v Sole Baye

The Number Two Terrier, the Russell Terrier, GCH CH Goldsands Columbus, has had several head to head meetings with Sky and has won a number of them.  However, just last week, Sky went three for three in matchups with the Russell, Bosse.  Bosse is currently the Number Seven Dog All Breeds.

CH AbsolutelyTalk of the Town

The Number Three Terrier, the Welsh Terrier, GCH CH Shaireab Bayleigh Maid of Honor, has 14 BIS and 50 Terrier Groups, good enough to make her the Number 13 Dog All Breeds.  The Number Four Terrier, the Miniature Schnauzer, GCH CH Allaruth Just Kidding v Sole Baye, brings 17 BIS and 49 Terrier Groups into the big dance.  Two more dogs that we think are serious contenders are the Sky Terrier, GCH CH Cragsmoor Good Time Charlie, and the Smooth Fox Terrier, CH Absolutely Talk of the Town.

Whatever the final placements are, the Hatboro Dog Club, the Devon Dog Show Association, and the Montgomery County Kennel Club show provide an unmatched opportunity to enjoy the Terrier Group.  See you there!
