The hometown Greenville Kennel Club opened the three day stop in that South Carolina city.  Judge Dorothy Dalton chose her top two from the English Cocker Spaniel, CH Edgewood Devilish Design, the Afghan Hound, GCH CH Tells Matrix Reloaded, the Siberian Husky, CH Snowmist's Quicksilver Speigas, the Welsh Terrier, GCH CH Shaireab's Bayleigh Maid Of Honor, the Pug, GCH CH Hill country Tag I’m It, the Standard Poodle, GCH CH Luminary Black Velvet Bejeweled With Pearls, and the German Shepherd Dog, Woodsides Lacy.

Her BIS was the Afghan Hound, Matrix, and her RBIS was the Standard Poodle, Pearl.   It’s the first AKC BIS for the six year old Swedish import, who collected six Group Ones in 2012.  Congratulations to breeders Jorgen Collinge, Marie-Louise & Camilla Tell-Collinge, owner Missy Galloway, and handler Christian Manelopoulos.

LAKELAND FL DAY ONE

The first results today come in from Lakeland FL and the Lakeland Winter Haven Kennel Club.   Dr Sophia Kaluzniacki’s final included the ASCOB Cocker Spaniel, CH BLT Into The Wild, the Bluetick Coonhound, GCH CH Charwin Fairmont Sweet Society Blue Snuff, the Siberian Husky, CH Snowmist's Quidditch Seeker, the Australian Terrier, CH Temora Ri Diercc, the Papillon, CH Wildfire on the Rocks, the Miniature Poodle, Karadale Clarion Born This Way, and the German Shepherd Dog, GCH CH Wolf Creek Galaxy Of Merivern.

Best went to the GSD, Galaxy, and Reserve went to the Coonhound, Snuffy, Galaxy finished 2012 with one BIS and 18 Herding Groups.  Today’s win is his first of the year.  We are confident that he will improve on last year.  Congratulations to breeder/owner Pat Walker, co-breeder Mary Ann Imhoff, owner Edward Farrell, and handler Scott Yergin.

I'M SORRY

Before we get into today’s show reports I want to apologize to my Dog Show Poop readers.  It has come to my attention that a technical glitch prevented some of you from joining our “Garden Party” chat room during the Tuesday night broadcast of the Westminster Kennel Club show.  I have very much enjoyed hosting the chat room these past five years and it pains me deeply that some of my readers did not get to participate.  You have my word that any future events will have failsafes in place to assure everyone gets to share the experience with your fellow readers.  I hope that my readers will forgive the error and will continue to enjoy the Dog Show Poop site.

Chesterhope State of the Art

As we slog through the email we gathered while in New York, we realize that we owe you a report on the West Texas Kennel Club shows in Midland Texas last weekend.  The Pointer, Chesterhope State of the Art, made a dramatic debut taking both of the big rosettes from the Open Bitch class.

On Saturday Roger Hartinger preferred Miley to the Whippet, GCH CH Karasar's Rememberence, the Siberian Husky, Icewind's Blue Suede Shoes, his Reserve winner, the Welsh Terrier, CH Malvado Devil Woman, the Italian Greyhound, CH Infiniti Rave Review At Valhasar, the Chow Chow, GCH CH Dreamland's Wanna Be A Billionaire, and the Shetland Sheepdog, GCH CH Karosel Kartwheels.

On Sunday Miley was Paula Hartinger’s pick over the above named Whippet, the Doberman Pinscher, GCH CH O’s Godiva Demitasse Chocolate, the Aforementioned Welsh Terrier, the Pug, GCH CH  Pocket’s Ameci, the Keeshond, GCH CH Showtyme’s Happy Feet, and the Pembroke Welsh Corgi,  Tri-Umph The Gem of The Ocean.  Her reserve was the Owner/Handler Number One Dog, the Whippet, Britanee.

These were the first AKC BIS for the five year old bitch.   However, this is far from her first big win.  Miley is a multi-BIS winner in her native New Zealand and we look for her to do the same here. Congratulations to breeder Diane O'Neil, owner Jordyn O'Neil, and handler Brian Livingston.

It was a watershed year for the Westminster Kennel Club show.  Capitalizing on both the new and the old, the WKC pulled off one of the most successful shows in years.  The return to the inclusion of class dogs in the show resulted in one of the most dramatic moments in Westminster history.  The move to a two venue event came off brilliantly with a modicum of inconvenience.

We couldn’t help but think of Charles Dickens as the 137^th Westminster Kennel Club show came to an end.  We had seen ghosts from WestminsterS past as the 2011 Terrier Group winner, the Smooth Fox Terrier, GCH CH Slyfox Sneaks a Peek, made a surprise appearance, handing the 2013 Number One Dog All Breeds, the Wire Fox Terrier, GCH CH AfterAll Painting the Sky, her first Group loss in 19 appearances this year.  We also saw the 2012 Number One Dog all Breeds, the German Wirehaired Pointer, GCH CH Mt View’s Ripsnorter Silver Charm, win the Sporting Group despite a strong challenge from the 2011 Number One Dog the Black Cocker Spaniel, GCH CH Casablanca’s Thrilling Seduction.

Additional ghosts from Westminster present included 2012 Top Ten Dogs, the American Foxhound, GCH CH Kiarry’s Pandora’s Box, the Affenpinscher, GCH CH Banana Joe V Tani Kazari, and 2012’s Number Five Non-Sporting Dog, the Bichon Frise, GCH CH Vogelflight’s “Honor” to Pillowtalk.  Ghosts from Westminster future were the sensational Portuguese Water Dog, GCH CH Claircreek Impression De Matisse, and the clear crowd favorite, the Old English Sheepdog, Bugaboo’s Picture Perfect.  The Portie, Matisse, entered the fray late in 2012, but finished strong with one BIS and six Working Groups.  However, it was the OES, Swagger, that caught everybody off guard.  For the first time since 1991 class dogs were participating at Westminster.  Swagger came out of the Bred By Exhibitor class to take the breed over 16 titled dogs, including at least two BIS winners. 

Judge Michael Dougherty stated that each of his seven dogs deserved a Best In Show rosette, but he only had two awards to give.  He gave the first ever Westminster Kennel Club Reserve Best In Show Rosette to the Ghost of Westminsters Future, the OES, Swagger, breeder/owner handled by Colton Johnson.  The Best In Show trophy went to a Ghost of Westminsters present, the Affenpinscher, Joey.

The Dutch native, Joey, has been here in the USA these last three years winning 85 BIS, including 37 just last year.  The Westminster title is his first of 2013.  It was also the first Westminster title for superstar handler, Ernesto Lara.  Our congratulations to Ernesto, breeder/owner Mieke Cooymans, and Zoila Truesdale.
