SADIE GETS NUMBER 98

We’ve just heard that the country’s number one dog, the Scottish Terrier, CH Roundtown Mercedes Of Maryscot, has collected career all breed BIS number 98 at today’s Wine Country Kennel Club in Napa CA.

Dana Cline also saw the English Springer Spaniel, CH Tara's Master Of "D" Game, the Rhodesian Ridgeback, CH Pupukearidge Ikaika O Sprngvly, the Black Russian Terrier, CH Jeff Yvonne Orlowsky Laimus, the Chihuahua, CH Jocal Dancing With The Stars, the Dalmatian, CH Xandu’s Angel Sabrina, and the Australian Shepherd, CH Alydar’s California Poppy.

It’s always a thrill to watch a dog close in on the century milestone of 100 all breed BIS. We started the year with three dogs achieving that mark. We feel very privileged to see another. As always, when it happens, you will read about it here first.

PRIZE FIGHT IN MASSACHUSETTS

We have a pair of BIS to tell you about, both from Fitchburg MA, both working dogs, and both top ten dogs all breeds.

CH Winfall Brookwood Styled Dream

On Friday, Geri Kelly chose the nation’s number two Working Dog and number six dog all breeds, the Boxer, CH Winfall Brookwood Styled Dream, as the Souhegan Kennel Club’s Best In Show. Today, at the Framingham District Kennel Club’s show, Lee Brown gave the BIS nod to the US’ number one Working Dog, the number two dog all breeds, the Doberman Pinscher, CH Allure Blazing Star Alisaton. That’s a one/two punch by two knockout specimens.

SMOOTH SAILING IN SALISBURY

CH Reidwood Red Alert

Wendy G. Willhauck had BIS duty on day two for the Salisbury Maryland Kennel Club. Her seven candidates were the English Setter, CH Reidwood Red Alert, the Otterhound, CH Scentasia’s Shake Rattle N Roll, the Boxer, CH Tamaron’s Leonidas, the Airedale Terrier, CH Stirling Cool Hand Luke, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, CH Pinecrest Rock The Boat, the Standard Poodle, CH Unique Anticipation, and the Bouvier des Flandres, CH Brimar’s Always Mandrake HT.

BIS went to the country’s number one English Setter, Navy, his fourth. Congratulations to breeders Nancy E Warner & Clifford & Iris Reid, owner Georgette Perry, and handler Candy Carswell.

DEJA VU IN ALABAMA

How about some déjà vu all over again? Do you remember we told you about the finalists from Friday’s Huntsville Kennel Club event in Priceville AL? Well now we have the names of Thursday’s finalists from that club’s day one event.

In addition to her BIS winner, the West Higland White Terrier, CH Arbroath’s Rise’n Shine, Nikki Riggsbee saw the Labrador Retriever, CH Robnie’s Chantilly At Lighthouse, the Greyhound, CH Grand Cru Clos Erasmus, the Mastiff, CH Resolute’s Ticket To Ride, the winner of last month's French Bulldog Club of America National Specialty, CH Devine's LA Confidential, and the Shetland Sheepdog, CH Kylene Eden The Dragonslayer.

Today, at the Decatur Alabama Kennel Club’s first show of the weekend, Darryl Vice, saw the same Lab, Greyhound, Westie, & Sheltie along with the Boxer, CH Rumer Run’s Brigadier, a Toy Poodle from the classes, King Henry Christoph, and the Bichon Frise, CH Risgae Miabella Sweet Georgia. And the déjà vu part? That would be the Westie, Geordie picking up his third straight BIS. Congrats to the Geordie team, breeders Dee Donaldson, R Weckman, A Gieseking & B Weber, owners John Low MD & William Matthews III MD, and handler Bergit H Kabel.

Barbara Keenan had the company of the Labrador Retriever, CH Salty Dog Of Tampa Bay, the Whippet, CH Sportfields Bahama Sands, the Bernese Mountain Dog, CH Alpenspirit’s Lion King, the West Highland White Terrier, CH Glennhaven's Danny Boy O' Donnybrook , the Japanese Chin, CH Chindales Farrah Fawcett, the Miniature Poodle, CH Splash Di Caprio, and the Puli, CH Cordmaker Field Of Dreams. Her BIS was the nation’s number three dog, the Puli, Conrad. Don’t you just love it when the good ones just keep getting better?

Down in Brookville FL, the Hernando County Kennel Club held the first of their two shows this weekend. Pam Joy Douglas chose her BIS from the German Wirehaired Pointer, CH Star K’s Mile Hi Valentine, the Afghan Hound, CH Genesis Silverado, the Rottweiler, CH Ivos Rotley Crew V Caloosa Ranch CD, the west Highland White Terrier, CH Mac-Ken-Char’s Here I Am, a Pomeranian from the classes, Little Cherubs Daily News, the Standard Poodle, CH Dawin Spitfire, and the German Shepherd Dog, CH Shoal Creek’s Sangria V Barick. Her Best was the country’s number two Herding Dog, the GSD, Rhea. Already in the top twenty, this weekend could put her up into the top fifteen.

We told you last night that Sulie Greendale-Paveza’s BIS at the Greater Muskegon Kennel Club show yesterday was the Smooth Fox Terrier, CH J’Cobe Kemosabe Vigilante Justice.

Now we can tell you that Dodger had the company of the Labrador Retriever, CH Windswepthill Storm Tracker, the Basset Hound, CH Topsfield-Sanchu American Express, the Siberian Husky, CH Coventry’s Peace Negotiator, the Smooth Coat Chihuahua, CH Ayrwen Star Kissed Delight, the Bulldog, CH Kepley’s Showbiz Razzle Dazzle, and the Old English Sheepdog, CH Lambluv’s Daydream Believer.

And while we don’t know who was in the Thursday Huntsville Kennel Club final with BIS winner, the West Highland White Terrier, CH Arbroath’s Rise’n Shine, we can tell you that Geordies fellow finalists on Friday were the Golden Retriever, CH Toasty’s Treasure Island, the Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen, CH Rokeena Carte Blanche, an as yet unnamed Samoyed, the Pomeranian, CH Char’s Bringin’ Sexy Back, the Tibetan Terrier, CH Cedar C Barntorm Ltd Edition, and the Shetland Sheepdog, CH Kylene Eden The Dragonslayer.

We have some BIS results for you. First from Priceville Al we have word that the West Highland White Terrier, CH Arbroath’s Rise’N Shine, has won back to back BIS courtesy of the Huntsville Kennel Club. Geordie and handler Bergit Kabel have collected four Bests in the last 30 days.

CH J’Cobe Kemosabe Vigilante Justice

From Grand Rapids MI, we have a report that the Smooth Fox Terrier, CH J’Cobe Kemosabe Vigilante Justice, has taken the top prize at the opener hosted by the Greater Muskegon Kennel Club. Dodger is both the number two Terrier and number eight dog all breeds.

SALISBURY MARYLAND RESULTS

The Salisbury Maryland Kennel Club got an early start on the weekend today in their hometown with Judy Harrington in the final ring

Her seven were the English Spring Spaniel, CH Cerise Jesse James, the Bloodhound, CH Hold The Mayo At Magpie, the Portuguese Water Dog, CH Timber Oaks Music Man, the Airedale Terrier, CH Stirling Cool Hand Luke, the Toy Poodle, CH Smash Jp Moon Walk, the Tibetan Spaniel, CH Wassong’s Djebel Of Lollipop, and the Bouvier des Flandres, CH Brimar’s Always Mandrake HT.

Her BIS was the Bloodhound, Lola. We have not seen much of this four year old in the last two years. Certainly this is an auspicious return to the ring. Congratulations to breeder Claudia Kaminski and owner Sandy Allen.

WEEKEND BEGINS IN MASSACHUSETTS

The Cheshire Kennel Club opened a four day dog show weekend in Fitchburg MA with a powerhouse final.

Joy Brewster chose her Best from the Irish Setter, CH Shadagee Caught Red handed, the Rhodesian Ridgeback, CH Of Afrikka Spring Valley Dorain Gray JC, the Doberman Pinscher, CH Allure Blazing Star Alisaton, the Sealyham Terrier, CH Efbe's Merci Pour Le Poivre, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, CH Moonvale Augustinian By Shenlyn, the Standard Poodle, CH Hillwood Dassin De-Lovely, and the Bearded Collie, CH Tolkien Raintree Mister Baggins.

Her choice for Thursday’s top dog was the Beardie, Roy. That’s Roy’s 14th career BIS and his 13th this year.

THIS WEEKS SHOWS

If you live in the Southeast you will have several chances, eleven to be exact, to visit an AKC dog show this week. From Salisbury MD, where the Salisbury Maryland & Mispillion Kennel Clubs will host three shows beginning Friday, to Brooksville FL with the Hernando County Kennel Club doing the Saturday/Sunday thing, there are lots of choices. The Furniture City Kennel Club will also do a traditional two day in Greensboro NC, while you can spend Thursday through Sunday in Huntsville AL with the Huntsville & Decatur Alabama Kennel Clubs.

Huntsville is home to Redstone Arsenal

New Englanders also have a four day cluster in Fitchburg MA courtesy of the Cheshire, Souhegan, & Framingham District Kennel Clubs. The Greater Muskegon, Kalamazoo, & Grand Rapids Kennel Clubs will hold sway for three days starting Friday in Grand Rapids MI. Heartlanders can spend the weekend in Springfield MO with the Ozarks Kennel Club.

Sterling Vineyards, Napa Valley

The rest of the country will have to get on the road for a bit to see the Cypress Creek Kennel Club Of Texas’ two shows in Houston or the Southern Colorado Kennel Club two in Pueblo. On the West Coast it’s all up north with the Wine Country Kennel Club’s two shows in Napa CA and the Willamette Valley Kennel Club’s pair in Salem OR.

Finally, we expect mostly locals in the frozen north at the Cook Inlet Kennel Club in Palmer AK. Florida or Alaska, you will find beautiful animals and wonderful folks at any AKC show.
