MORE BIS REPORTS

We have a couple of more Best In Shows to report. First, that steamroller masquerading as a Scottish Terrier, CH Roundtown Mercedes Of Maryscot, has picked up two more BIS, Friday’s Mattoon Kennel Club show under Terry Stacy and today‘s Sandemac Kennel Club courtesy of Suzanne Dillin. For those keeping count (and aren’t we all) that makes 91 career all breed Best In Shows.

CH Sylvan Argent Simply Irresistible

No sooner had we commented on how well the Herding Group was doing this weekend that we got word that the Rough Collie, CH Sylvan Argent Simply Irresistible, has logged her 15th career best at today’s Bell County Kennel Club show in Belton TX with John Ramirez making the call. Now we will have to wait for the show counts before we know who is the number three Herding Dog.

ANOTHER TOY BIS

It’s day three in Rapid City SD and it’s the third day a Toy Dog has taken home the top prize. Today’s winner was the Smooth Chihuahua, CH Ayrwen Star Kissed Delight.

Edd Bivin’s remaining finalists were the Black Cocker Spaniel, CH EXL’s Leather’N Lace, the American Foxhound, CH Devlons Fame And Fortune, the Alaskan Malamute, CH Sno Klassic Play The Game, the Norwich Terrier, CH Skyscot's Poker Chi, the Bichon Frise, CH Parays Rime Time, and the Rough Collie, CH Gentry’s Braveheart.

That’s number four this year for Dee-Dee, the country’s number one Smooth Chihuahua, and breedere/owner/handler Gloria Johnson. Brava!

It was Toddie Clark today in the final ring of the Upper Potomac Kennel Club in Cumberland MD.

Today’s BIS went to the country’s number three dog all breeds, the Puli, Conrad. That’s two for the Herding Group today.

BEARDIE BIS IN BUENA NJ

CH Tolkien Raintree Mister Baggins

It’s chilly up in Buena NJ, but at least one dog is having a hot time. The Bearded Collie, CH Tolkien Raintree Mister Baggins, has logged his 13th career Best In Show, taking home the top prize at today’s Gloucester County Kennel Club show with Arelene Benko officiating. According to our numbers that puts Roy in the number three slot in the Herding Group and moves him up to number 21 all breeds, but then we have not heard from everyone yet this weekend.

From Rapid City SD we hear that the Pomeranian, CH Velocity’s Shake Ur Bon Bon has posted back to back BIS. Today’s Best came courtesy of judge Mary Lou Kniola.

Bon’s six playmates were fellow Thursday finalists, the Black Cocker Spaniel, CH EXL's Leather-N Lace, & the Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen, CH Afterglow Ebeneezer, the Alaskan Malamute, CH Sno Klassic Play The Game, the Miniature Bull Terrier, CHCamino’s Lucy Lou, the Standard Poodle, CH Dawin Spitfire, and the Rough Collie, CH Gentry’s Braveheart.

We did say that Bon might turn this weekend into an opportunity to regain a top 25 ranking.

CUMBERLAND MD FRIDAY RESULTS

Patricia Gellerman’s seven finalists were the Brittany, CH Magic Read My Lips, the Smooth Dachshund, CH Pawprint Add-Sim’s Kristal MS, the Bernese Mountain Dog, CH Bluemoon Tazenite V Blackrock CD, the West Highland White Terrier, CH Mac-Ken-Char’s Here I Am, the Pekingese, CH Lin-Lee’s For The Good Times, the Standard Poodle, CH Dassin Hilllwood De-Lovely, and the Belgian Malinois, CH Trisorts Code Of The Road.

BIS went to the nation’s number one Smooth Dachshund, bred by Sharon Varty, and owned by Robbie Addison & Cliff Simones, who handled the two year old bitch to her third all breed Best In Show this year. Congratulations to them all.

MEET THE BREEDS

You guys may not know that we took a hiatus from the dog game during the 1990s to try our hand with cats. While we admittedly prefer dogs, we did love the time we spent with our Persian cats.


If you are in the New York metro area this weekend stop by the Javits Center (on 11th Avenue between 34th and 39th Streets) and see beautiful examples of 160 dog breeds and 41 cat breeds. The American Kennel Club and the Cat Fanciers Association are proving that dog people and cat people can get along. While we doubt that any dog people or cat people will be converted to the other side, dog people will be amazed at the variety and different personalities of cats and cat people will be overwhelmed at the range of dog breeds available.

If you go, talk to cat people about color/pattern breeding, their scoring system, and the advantages of benched shows. You can read more about the event at the AKC web site.

STARTING IN SOUTH DAKOTA

The Rapid City (South Dakota) Kennel Club opened their four day set today with Patrica Trotter calling Best In Show.

Her finalists were the Black Cocker Spaniel, CH EXL's Leather-N Lace, the Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen, CH Afterglow Ebeneezer, the Mastiff, CH Seng Khri Batok Of Dawa, the West Highland White Terrier, CH Plum Creek Di’s Amazing Grace, the Pomeranian, CH Velocity Shake Ur Bon Bon, the Miniature Poodle, CH Amity Mystical Horizon’s Heaven, and the Puli, CH Lajosmegyi Singin’ In The Rain.

The first BIS of the weekend went to the Pom, Bon. Bon had spent much of the first half of 2009 in the top 25 dogs all breeds. He is currently lurking just outside that exclusive club and is still the country’s number one Pomeranian and number six Toy Dog. Who knows, he may move back into the clubhouse before the weekend is over.

SPECIAL NATIONAL SPECIALTIES

Here at Dog Show Poop, we don’t get enough time to spend on Specialties, i.e., single breed shows. It’s a practical matter. We already cover nearly 1500 shows a year. Furthermore results of specialties are hard to come by. Generally, the AKC does not publish results of Speciaties.

It’s a shame for we believe that a National Breed Club’s annual National Specialty are dog shows distilled to their purest form. You generally have a breed specialist judging, which is rarely the case at an all breed show. These shows frequently are the largest collection of breed specimens all year. The recent Irish Setter National Specialty featured nearly 500 entries. Best of all the gallery includes the real experts on the breed, the long time breeders. If you want to learn about an individual breed, attend a National Specialty.

We are, therefore pleased to tell you about these three recent National Specialty winners. Most recently, the Komondor, CH Lajosmegyi Djaam, was John Landis choice for BISS at yesterday’s Komondor Club of America National Specialty in Rapid City SD. Congratulations to breeders Anna Quigley & Pat Turner and owners Nancy Powell & Toni Powell. She was owner handled by Nancy.

CH Topsfield-Sanchu Pop Art O’Bridi

Next ,we have the results of the Basset Hound Club of America’s Nationaly Specialty earlier this month in Shelton Washington. Breeder judge Gwen McCullagh choice for BOB was CH Topsfield-Sanchu Pop Art O’Bridi. Arty was bred by Dr Claudia Orlandi, Judi Kinnear and Jim Bacha, is owned by Dr Claudia Orlandi and Claire K. Steidel, and handled by Sue Frischman. Bravo to them all.

CH Shireoak Caniscaeli Windsong

Carl Liepmann chose the Irish Red and White Setter, CH Shireoak Caniscaeli Windsong, as BISS at the National Specialty of the Irish Red and White Setter Association of America held September 19th in Metamora MI. Eamon was the first Red & White to win a Sporting Group in the US. Our congratulations to breeder Kim Spelmer, owners Gail & Leslie Harrison & Douglas Johnson, and handler Greg Myers.

CH Ingebar’s Sergeant Pepper

Finally, we have the recent Giant Schnauzer Club of America’s National Specialty in Roseville CA. Best Of Breed was CH Ingebar’s Sergeant Pepper, the first salt & Pepper Giant to win a National Specialty. Only 22 months old he is bred/owned by Maryanne Bisceglia, one of the breeders of last year’s number one dog all breeds, CH Galilee's Pure Of Spirit. Congratulations to Maryanne, one of the nicest people we know in dogs or anywhere.
