VIZSLA IN VIRGINIA

John Cole’s final at the day two show of the Warrenton Kennel Club in Millwood VA was the same as day one with two exceptions and one of those exceptions proved to be exceptional, the Best In Show winner, the Vizsla, CH Artisan Grouse Point Pink Panther.

Reprising their Friday roles were the prior day’s BIS winner, the American Foxhound, CH Kiarry’s Foolish Pride, the Great Pyrenees, CH Rivergrove Gtrump This, the Sealyham Terrier, CH Efbe’s Merci Pour Le Poivre, the Toy Poodle, Ch Smash Jp Moon Walk, and the Puli, CH Cordmaker Rumpus Bumpus. Making his first appearance of the weekend was the Chow Chow, CH Are-Jay’s Emancipation.

Back in May, the Vizsla, Kato, was the first of his breed to win a BIS in 2009. Now, the 18 month old youngster, has two. We bet there will be many more to come.

Robert Booth had the Vizsla, CH Renaissance Girls Gone Wild (another marvelous imported dog), the Whippet, CH Starline Chanel, the Boxer, CH Bravo N Sunset’s Stealing Time, the Lakeland Terrier, CH Hi-Kel Terrydale Soldier Of Fortune, the Maltese, CH Rhapsody's Too Many Remarks, the Finnish Spitz, CH Pikkinokka Badgr Sir Barksalot, and the Cardigan Welsh Corgi, Spotlight Jamboree.

Best In Show went to the Boxer, Sherman, who is having a very good September. That’s his second this month.

ANOTHER GREAT IMPORT

With the nations of the world gathering in New York for the United Nations’ annual general assembly, it‘s an appropriate time to reflect on the presence here of so many fine AKC dogs that were born in countries other than the US. Among the top foreign born dogs competing in the US currently are the Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen from Australia, CH Rokeena Carte Blanche, the Toy Poodle from Japan, CH Smash Jp Moon Walk, and the Bedlington Terrier from Sweden, CH Velvety Angel Eyes.

Today, we got a report that the British import, the Lakeland Terrier, Saredon For Your Eyes Only, went Best In Show under Dr Roger S Pritchard at Saturday’s Burbank Kennel Club show in Van Nuys CA. Judy Averis’ Saredon Kennels is known for producing great dogs in multiple Terrier breeds. Saredon For Your Eyes Only, known as Ginger by her friends, won the British National Terrier Show in April. Ginger was bred by Judy Averis & was owned in the UK by Dave Scawthorn & Judy’s son, Johnny Averis, who handled her. Her American hosts are Felicia Cashin and Alexandra Geremia. Here in the US she will be handled by Terrier expert Wood Wornall. Wood’s daughter, Jenny, and accomplished professional handler in her own right, was on the end of the lead for this BIS. Congratulations to them all on Ginger first AKC Best In Show. We will certainly be looking for this one next weekend at Montgomery County.

SADIE STOPS OVER IN MICHIGAN

The country’s number one dog stopped in Monroe MI this weekend on her way to Bluebell PA for next weekend’s all Terrier extravaganza, the venerable Montgomery County Kennel Club show. For you non Terrier enthusiasts, Montgomery County is the Super Bowl of Terriers. Many Terrier Breeders would rather win a Montgomery County than a Westminster.

But back to this weekend, the Scottish Terrier, CH Roundtown Mercedes Of Maryscot, spent Friday collecting the BIS from David Harris at the limited breed show of the Terrier Club of Michigan. Today, Sadie and handler Gabriel Rangel, were at the day one show of the Monroe Kennel Club. In addition to Sadie, Dr Robert A. Indeglia considered the English Setter CH Kaska’s Capture The Moment, the Whippet, CH Karasar’s Par Excellence, the Samoyed, CH Stolicnaya, the Pemeranian, CH Mountain Crst U Don’t Own Me, a Standard Poodle from the classes, Cotian Luv The Nite Life, and the Rough Collie, CH Westwood Aladdin .

It was career all breed Best In Show number 83 for Sadie as the little engine that could keeps rolling on toward the title of AKC 2009 Number One Dog All Breeds.

IRISH WATER SPANIEL BIS IN WASHINGTON

Out in Kennewick WA, Gloria Geringer had the pleasure of choosing Best In Show at the day one show of the Richland Kennel Club.

Her seven were the Irish Water Spaniel, CH Poole’s Ide Got Water, the 15”Beagle, CH Talbot Hill's Thyme After Time, the Alaskan Malamute, CH Rogue’s Jonny Wallker Black Label, the Scottish Terrier, CH McVan’s Trip The Light Fantastic, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, CH Full of Malarkey Miles of Aisles, the Standard Poodle, CH Brighton Lakeridge Summer In The Hamptons, and the Belgian Sheepdog, CH Isengard’s Oncore.

Day one belonged to the Water Spaniel, Keegan. It’s the first all breed BIS for an Irish Water Spaniel this year. Congratulations to breeders G H Siner & D Patterson and owners Stacy Duncan, Colleen McDaniel & Greg Siner.

PBGV IN HOT SPRINGS

Down here in our neck of the woods, there’s a classy little gathering in Hot Springs National Park in Arkansas. Day one saw Elisabeth Muthard with the BIS book for the Hot Springs National Park Kennel Club.

It may be off the beaten path, but the final was full of luminaries of the dog world, the Golden Retriever, CH Toasty’s Treasure Island, the Petit Baset Griffon Vendee, CH Rokeena Carte Blanche, the Great Dane, CH Warwick’s Dark Vader V Dmania, the Norwich CH Skysot’s Poker Chip, the Papillion, the Lhasa Apso, CH Rushmar’s Charmer, and the Rough Collie, CH Sylvan Simply Irresistible.

It was the country’s number one Hound and number five Dog All Breeds, the PBGV, CeeJay, going Best In Show. That’s al breed BIS number 22 for CeeJay and handler Jane Myers.

AFGHAN WINS IN FLORIDA

Down in sunny Florida, everyone has left the show grounds for the day after Terry Goldman made her Best In Show choice at today’s West Volusia Kennel Club show in Deland.

Ms. Goldman chose from the Weimneraner, CH Smokycity Nanis Dbl Silhouette, the Afghan Hound, CH Genesis Silverado, the Boxer. CH Sabo’s Majestic Provocation, the Skye Terrier, CH Cragsmoor Buddy Goodman, the Maltese CHDiamond Tea Leoni, the Chow Chow, CH Kelin's There Can Be Only One, and the Puli, CH Cordmaker Field Of Dreams.

BIS went to the elegant Afghan, Dylan, the nation’s number four Hound. That’s his fourth all breed BIS this year.

From Oyser Bay NY we hear that Jean Fournier has just chosen the 15” Beagle, CH Torquay Midnight Confession, as her Best In Show at today’s Suffolk County Kennel Club.

Joining Lola and breeder/owner/handler Marcelo Chagas for the festivities were the English Setter, CH Reidwood Red Alert, the Bernese Mountain Dog, CH CH Bluemoon Tazenite V Blackrock CD, the Bedlington Terrier, CH Velvety Angel Eyes, the Affenpinscher, CH Velvet Dandy Dipsy, the Bichon Frise, CH Risgae’s Duchess Of Wessex, and yesterday’s BIS winner, the Bearded Collie, CH Tolkien Raintree Mister Baggins.

It was the fourth BIS this month for Lola. The good ones just keep getting better.

FOXHOUND BEST IN HUNT COUNTRY

Millwood VA sits in the heart of Northern Virginia’s Hunt Country. So it seems appropriate that W Everett Dean Jr would select the iconic American Foxhound, CH Kiarry’s Walk This Way, as his Best In Show at Friday’s Warrenton Kennel Club show.

Completing his special seven were the German Wirehaired Pointer, CH Ripsnorter’s Mt View Lookout, the Great Pyrenees, CH Rivergrove Trump This, the Sealyham Terrier, CH Efbe’s merci Pour Le Poivre, the Toy Poodle, CH Smash Jp Moon Walk, the Bulldog, Hetherbull Topline Bully Joel, and the Puli, CH Cordmaker Rumpus Bumpus.

It was the Foxhound’s second BIS this year. Congratulations to breeders Claudette Dupont and Harry & Lisa Miller (who handled Steven to the win) and Paul Reilly, and Walter & Carol Sommerfelt.

We don’t have a complete report on today’s Kanadasaga Kennel Club shiw, but we thought you might like to know that the Bulldog, CH Kepley‘s Showbiz Razzle Dazzle, repeated her Thursday BIS win, taking today‘s top prize. Back2Back Best In Shows are rare enough, but this one came against some of the country’s toughest competition. Brava Team Uli!
