DOG SHOW FASHION? YES?

New to the dog world, I thought I would put a bit of a twist on my reporting, and well fashion is what I do best, so here goes...As I am sure you know, dog shows are probably the LAST place people look to for fashion stories, but I was pleasantly surprised at how fashionable some of the handlers really are!

Dr. Joseph Vergnetti, who had the Standard Poodle, Sissy (CH Hillwood Dassin De-Lovely), said that what he wears is about function first and then he looks to the details. Well, he looked very dapper in a tweed blazer blue button down with tie and grey slacks. Might I add, pulled together very nicely with his Hermes belt and lavender socks!

As for the ladies, Taffe MecFadden, handler of 2008's number one dog, the Giant Schnauzer, CH Galilee's Pure Of Spirit, wore bright pink and really stood out. When I spoke to her, she noted that she "always goes for a-line skirts paired with a short jacket." She also added that shoe choice is also key, "they must be supportive and have grips on the soles. "

Marcelo Chagas said it best, "comfort comes first when getting dressed for a huge show like Westminster, but it is also important to coordinate with the color of the dog you are showing," someone I spoke to later said that wearing light colors with a light dog means you are probably trying to hide something. Grey and yellow work perfectly for him with his 15 Beagle, CH Torquay Central Station, "Eric" !

Good Morning! We are a bit hung over after our inaugural Garden Party, but we are thrilled with the response we got. We do have results already this morning and let’s start with some Toys. The Pug, CH Tupelo Shoboat Tu China Tu, repeated his last year’s Breed win and the countries number one Pekingese, CH Pequest Match Point, also took the Breed. All today’s breed judging has been completed and we did have an upset. The Pembroke Welsh Corgi. CH Coventry Vanity Fair, the 2008 top Herding Dog was BOS to CH Ryslip History Boy. Rough Collies went more to form with last year’s Herding Group Four winner, CH Sylvan Argent Simply Irresistible, taking the breed. “Sax” just turned three in November and has won two BIS already this year.

We now know the Lakeland Terrier, CH Hi-Kel Terrydale Soldier Of Fortune, has won her breed. Ranger had spent much of 2008 off the radar screen, but as the number 12 dog last year, she should be a force in tonight's Terrier Group.

Well, we warned you not to bet your lunch money on Westminster. We ourselves are having a mixed day as prognosticator. Four of our DOGS2WATCH did not show up, the Welsh Terrier and the Bichon did not enter, the deerhound and GSD were absent. Some just got bested, the Foxhound, the PBGV, & the Tibetan Terrier. So, excluding the no shows how did we do? One for three in Hounds, three for three in Terriers (Guess which breeds we own?) one for two in Non-Sporting, and finally the Herding Group two for two thus far (Were still waiting on Corgis). That’s batting 700, but this isn’t baseball.

Ok, we have multiple important breed wins to report out. First, two more of the 2008 top ten have made it through the breed, the Sealyham Terrier, CH Efbe’s Hidalgo at Goodspice, was expected to win and did. The Standard Poodle, CH Randenn Tristar Affirmation, had some of the day's toughest competition and still prevailed.

Another top 20 dog, the Airedale Terrier, CH Stirling Cool Hand Luke, breezed through the breed as did the Puli, CH Cordmaker Field Of Dreams, another top 20 dog. We still have a couple of breeds to watch for and we will bring them to you as soon as we have them. In the meantime, don’t stop at the top page.
