BABY BRIARD WINS BIS

BIS by puppies are rare enough, but BIS by a puppy from the Herding Group are once in a blue moon. Today at the Quensboro Kennel Club show in West Springfield MA, Etta B. Orenstein gave the Briard, Eastbay Déjà Vu Enjoy The Ride, a not yet nine month old puppy bitch, the Best In Show. She caught our eye yesterday by winning the Herding Group at the Queensboro day one show.

Eastbay Déjà Vu Enjoy The Ride

Mrs. Orenstein’s six runners up were the Labrador Retriever, CH Casbar’s Hart To Hart, the Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen, CH Monkham’s Famous Grouse, the Mastiff, CH Beefcake Majestic Of Bodacious, yesterday’s BIS winner, the Irish Terrier, CH Fleet St Fenway Fan, the Maltee, CH Chatterbox, Nothin’ But Love, and the Bichon Frise, CH Whtebreds Kissed Up By Kenninway.

This was no walk in the park either. Not only did this girl face substantial competition in the final ring, she had to get past a top 25 dog in the group both days, the Bearded Collie, CH Tolkien Raintree Mister Baggins. Congratulations to breeders/owners Lynn Bernard & Terry Miller, co-owners S & C Schweinshaut, and handler Regina Keiter. We consider this one a DOG2WATCH.

  3. Congrats to all. Those of you who cannot appreciate a beautiful puppy and a spectacular win . . . . your jealousy is showing!

  4. I do not own briards (instead own sporting breeds) but I can say that with that topline, and poor coat color, that there is no reason a 9 month old puppy should ever take best in show. Period. She may be a nice puppy and may very well grow up into a nice bitch, but the reality is if THAT was the best that was in the ring, ribbons should have been witheld. No jealousy, fact.

  5. As the poster on 11/26/09 said, she may be a nice puppy and may very well grow up into a good bitch, but she is not grown yet, and there is an off chance that she won't grow into what she should. Until the dog is grown, and what you see it definitely what you will get, BIS should not be awarded: it lowers the prestige of the award.

However, what's done is done, so congrats to the dog and her owners, and good luck at future shows (she took G4 at the AKC/Eukanuba National this year).
