THE YEAR OF THE HERDING DOG?

When we lived in the San Francisco Bay Area, one of our regular stops was the Golden Gate Kennel Club show at the Cow Palace.  The show is still a great draw in the City by the Bay.  Today’s iteration featured Dr Gareth Morgan-Jones in the final ring with the GCH CH Simpatico Equal Justice, the Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen, GCH CH M&M’s Fear the Bear, the Portuguese Water Dog, GCH CH Topnotch Celestial Phenomenon Of Alto Mare BN RN, the Miniature Schnauzer, GCH CH Regency’s Paly for Keeps, the Chinese Crested, CH Kulana’s Sh-Boom, the Keeshond, GCH CH Skyline’s Unit of Measure, and the .Bouvier des Flandres, GCH CH Take Aim’s Playing for Gryffindor.

His top two were the Bouvier, Gryf, and the Crested, Holly.  It’s the third BIS of the young season for Gryf and handler Larry Fenner.  Is it too early to call it the Year of the Herding Dog?

GCH CH Caper’s Sirius Endeavor

Judge Thomas Yates was in Ladson SC to call today’s final for the Charleston Kennel Club.  The seven dogs he saw were the Gordon Setter, GCH CH Saranac Toblerone, the Whippet, GCH DC Ableaim Que The Music MC, the Siberian Husky, GCH CH Highlander's Rumour Has It, the Smooth Fox Terrier, CH J'Cobe Broxden Shark Dressed Man, the Pug, GCH CH Caper’s Sirius Endeavor, the Bichon Frise, GCH CH Overtop Gloryb Victoria Secret, and the Australian Shepherd, GCH CH Briarbrook's Nightline.

The two he chose were his BIS, the Pug, Rufus, and his RBIS, the Smooth Fox, Bruce.  It’s the first of the year for Rufus who was 2014’s Number Two Toy Dog with ten BIS and 39 Toy Groups.  Congratulations to breeders/owners Carolyn J Fisher & Philip G Fisher and owner/handler Linda Rowell.

GCH CH Bugaboo's Picture Perfect

The Greater Gainesville Dog Fanciers Association had the prime Saturday spot in Ocala FL for their day one show and they asked judge Robert Shreve to take the final ring.  He chose his BIS and RBIS from the Brittany GCH Rainbow Splash's Ruggedly Handsome, the Whippet,  GCH CH Sporting Fields Shameless, the Great Dane, GCH CH Raintree Erinwood Dixie For Heaven's Sake, the Wire Fox Terrier, GCH CH Garcini Rangel's Rock N Rolla, the Pug, GCH CH Hill Country's Tag I'm It, the Tibetan Spaniel, GCH CH Kan Sing's Tenzin, and the Old English Sheepdog, GCH CH Bugaboo's Picture Perfect.

His Best was the OES, Swagger, and his Reserve was the Whippet, Brazen.  It was the second consecutive BIS for Swagger and breeder/owner/handler Colton Johnson and their sixth of the young year.

Judge Houston Clark took over today’s final for the Middle Peninsula Kennel Club of Virginia in Richmond VA.  The seven he saw were the Field Spaniel, GCH CH SandsCape Pardon Me Boys, the Bloodhound, GCH CH Flessner's International S'cess, the Portuguese Water Dog, GCH CH Claircreek Impression De Matisse, the Siberian Husky, GCH CH Highlander's Rumour Has It, the Welsh Terrier, GCH CH Shaireab's Bayleigh Maid Of Honor, the Toy Poodle, GCH CH Smash Jp Beauty & Beat, the French Bulldog, GCH CH Lefox Born To Boogie, and the Briard, GCH CH Deja Vu Mia Cool As A Cucumber.

The PWD, Matisse, continued his breathtaking pace, collecting his tenth BIS of the year.  Reserve went to the Welsh Terrier, Jennie.

The Erie Kennel Club opened their two day set in their Pennsylvania home town with judge Margo Klingler in the final ring.  Asking for her consideration were the Irish Water Spaniel, GCH CH Whistlestop's Riley On Fire, the Saluki, GCH CH Starlite Bailey's Irish Cream JC, the Boxer, GCH CH Brisbane "N" Blue Monday's Diamonds Are Decadent, the Welsh Terrier, GCH CH Summersun's Sweet Memories, the Shih Tzu, CH Hallmark Jolei Rocket Power, the Chow Chow GCH Milin's Emerson Tappin' On The Bay CGC, and the Australian Shepherd, GCH CH Collinswood Sparks Fly.

The two she liked were the Boxer, Suri, and the Australian Shepherd, Ember.  It’s the first BIS of for the two year old bitch, who just began her specials career back in November. Upper Mid-West fanciers ignored record cold and snow to compete at yesterday’s Chain O Lakes Kennel Club show in Grayslake IL.  The seven hardy dogs that stayed all day to see judge Ken Murray were the Chesapeake Bay Retriever, CH Albridens The Show Must Go On, the Saluki, GCH CH Sandstorm Blue Nile Bubbles of Jatara, the Alaskan Malamute, GCH CH Catera’s Keepin’ It World Class, the Russell Terrier, GCH CH Goldsands Columbus, the Standard Poodle, GCH CH Dawin Hearts on Fire, and the Bouvier des Flandres, CH Margaux’s Va Voom.

The two taking the top awards were the Russell, Bosse, and the Saluki, Bubbles.  It’s the third  BIS in six final appearances this year for Bosse and handler Allison Sunderman.

Down on the Bayou southern fanciers were joined Friday by exhibitors from across the nation in Baton Rouge LA for the hometown kennel club’s day two show.  Judge Judy Webb capped the proceedings with a final that included the Black Cocker Spaniel, CH Ashdown’s Time To Thrill, the Whippet, GCH CH Karasar’s Masterpiece, the Greater Swiss Mountain Dog, GCH CH Derby’s Taste with Gusto, the Kerry Blue Terrier, GCH CH Ciarrai’s Beltane Embers, the Maltese, GCH CH Rhapsody N Cherubs Oh So Henry, the Bichon Frise, GCH CH Saks Winning Card, and the Puli, GCH CH Cordmaker Topsy Turvey.

Topping the seven was the Puli, Charlotte.  Close behind was the Whippet, .  Handler Linda Pitts piloted another Cordmaker Puli, CH Cordmaker Field of Dreams, to a Number Three Dog All Breeds spot and back2back Westminster Kennel Club Herding Group Ones in 2009 & 2010.  She and Charlotte collected three BIS and 79 Herding Groups in 2013.  Congratulations to Linda, breeder/owner Sue Huebner, and owners Jacquelyn Beaudoin & Penny Kelly.
