TOURING NEW YORK STATE

We have had several opportunities for exhibitors all over New York state these past week.  Two weeks ago there were three shows in New Paltz NY, 90 minutes due north of Manhattan, hosted by the Wallkill Kennel Club, the Shawangunk Kennel Club, and the Mid-Hudson Kennel Association.  On day one the seven dogs who made it to judge Sonny Ambrosio’s final were the Labrador Retriever, CH Frakari's Katydid, the Afghan Hound, GCH CH Exlysta Aries Ciel Noir, the Boxer, CH Jacquet's Annie El Encanto, the Kerry Blue Terrier, GCH CH Class Act By Hallsblu, the Brussels Griffon, GCH CH Tupelo Axel Rose Br, the Schipperke, GCH CH De LaMer Point Break, and the Shetland Sheepdog, Mercury's Scene Stealer.

Grabbing the opener’s BIS was the Boxer, Annie.  The RBIS went to the Schipperke, Surfer.  It was the first BIS in seven final appearances this year for Annie and handler Carmen Skinner.  Congratulations to Carmen, breeders Linda Cassella, Carol Shea, & Rick Tomita, and owners Dave & Nancy Sparks.

Thomas Parrotti had Friday’s final for the Shawangunk Kennel Club and his pick of the German Shorthaired Pointer, CH Starfield's Army Strong V Bulkley JH, the same Afghan Hound, Ryder, the Siberian Husky, CH Snowfire's Holy Moses, the same, Kerry, Blu, the Papillon, GCH CH Wildfire On The Edge, a Standard Poodle from the classes, Saphire's Black Ice, and the Rough Collie, GCH CH Milas Latin Fever.

The Kerry, Blu, collected the Best In Show and the Papillon, Cliff, took home the Reserve.  It was the second this year for Blue in ten final attempts.  Blu is the only Kerry to win a BIS this year.

The Mid-Hudson Kennel Association had the coveted Saturday date.  Judge Sari Tietjen had the final. The seven she considered were the Irish Water Spaniel, GCH CH Whistlestop’s Riley on Fire, the Afghan, Ryder, a Newfoundland, Pouch Cove's Southwind Edge Of Glory, the Scottish Terrier, GCH CH Charthill Top Billing, the Schipperke, Surfer, and the Australian Shepherd,  CH Crofton Fat Chance. 

Her Best was the IWS, Riley, and her Reserve was the not yet two year old Newfoundland.  Riley is the country’s Number One Irish Water Spaniel and Number Three Sporting Dog with four BIS and 21 Sporting groups.

Meanwhile the Genesee Valley Kennel Club was in Rush NY, just south of Lake Erie and Rochester NY, for their two shows.  On Saturday judge Jack Ireland saw the Irish Setter, GCH CH Northwoods First Reign, the Afghan Hound, GCH CH Scaramouche Show Must Go On, the Akita, GCH CH CR Wicca’s Trade Secret, the Smooth Fox Terrier, Absolutely Lost, the Cairn Terrier, GCH CH Hampton Court’s Charlie at Legend, the Miniature Poodle, GCH CH Jaboa’s Second to None, and an Australian Shepherd, Hearthside Big & Rich.

Judge Ireland liked the Irish Setter, Reign, for his BIS and the Akita, Trader, for his RBIS.  It was the first BIS for Reign, the nation’s Number One Irish Setter, and Number Seven Sporting Dog, in 17 trips to the final ring this season.  Congratulations to breeders/owners Rebecca & Jeff Arch, co-breeders Sharon Reilly & L Sommers, and owners Don & Nancy Keane.

Reign would be back on Sunday to plead his case with Ken Buxton.  He was joined by the Norwegian Elkhound, GCH CH Tioka's American Ride, the Newfoundland, GCH CH Rosewood's Royal Flush, the same Smooth Fox, the Blenheim & Prince Charles English Toy Spaniel, CH Chaseland's Howard Glodek, a Standard Poodle from the classes, Stonehaus Duchess Of Coolsville, and the above named Australian Shepherd.

It would be the Newfoundland, Charles, getting the big rosette, and Reign getting the reserve ribbon.  It was Charles’ first BIS in just three visits to the BIS ring this year.  Congratulations to breeder/owner Michelle Morris, and handler Sam Mammano.

This past weekend New Yorkers headed to Bainbridge NY, three hours northwest of Manhattan, for three shows hosted by the Kanadasaga Kennel Club, the Del-Otse-Nango Kennel Club, and the Chenango Valley Kennel Club.  The KKC was up first on Thursday with Brian Meyer in the final ring with the Irish Setter, CH Evergreen Good Intentions, the Smooth Dachshund, CH R'Hill's Total Knockout MS, the Boxer, GCH CH Hi Tech The King of Sherry Shoot Jp, the Kerry Blue Terrier, GCH CH Class Act By Hallsblu, the Pekingese, GCH CH Yakee’s Easily Persuaded, the Tibetan Spaniel, GCH CH Kan Sing Tenzin, and the Briard, GCH CH Deja Vu Mia Cool As A Cucumber.

Judge Meyer went with the Tibbie, Tenzin, as his Best and the Briard, Dill, as his Reserve.  Tenzin is the US’ Number One Tibetan Spaniel, and the Number Eight Non-Sporting Dog with two BIS and 28 Non-Sporting Groups. 

Tenzin and the Peke, Rodger were the only two of Thursday’s finalists to make it back to the last ring.  Rounding out Bev Capstick’s seven were the  English Springer Spaniel, GCH CH Cerise Sentinel, the Borzoi, GCH CH Raynbo’s Run For The Roses, the Siberian Husky, GCH CH Snowmist's Quicksilver Speigas, the Cairn Terrier, GCH CH Dogwood Treasure Hunter, and the Shetland Sheepdog, GCH CH Grandgables The Frat Boy.

And it would be Rodger and Tenzin finishing one/two.  Rodger is the Number One Pekingese and the Number Four Toy Dog in America with six BIS and 30 toy Groups.

At Saturday’s CVKC show Nancy Bodine would consider the previously seen Springer, the Longhaired Dachshund, CH Dachsadore Isle Degrand Best Man, the aforementioned Siberian, the West Highland White Terrier, CH Deerhaven Hez Justin Kredible at Orion, the Peke, Rodger, the Tibbie, Tenzin, and the Australian Shepherd, Kinnebrook Safe At Home.

Judge Bodine would name the Husky, Fizzy, her BIS and the Springer,  Cerutti, as her RBIS.  It’s the second BIS in ten final appearances for Fizzy and handler Tim Terella.

RARE TOLLER BIS IN MINNESOTA

With the increasing number of shows with less than 400 dogs competing, many of our exhibitors have been looking for venues with bigger numbers.  On recent opportunity were the four shows two weeks ago in Cambridge MN.  The Anoka County Minnesota Kennel Club opened the set and asked judge Gloria Kerr to choose her top two.  Her options were the Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever, GCH CH Pikkanokas Lightning Bug, the Afghan Hound, GCH CH Kryslaurs Blueprint Carbon Copy SC, the Bernese Mountain Dog, Holidays Singular Sensation, the Australian Terrier, GCH CH Dunham Lakes Scout Master, the Pomeranian, GCH CH CR Chase What Matters, the Keeshond, CH KJs Hot Date, and the Pembroke Welsh Corgi, GCH CH Lismores Phantom Legacy.

Her Best In Show was the Toller, Flash.  Her Reserve was the Australian Terrier, Scout.  It would be first of two BIS for Flash in Cambridge.

At the ACMKC’s day two show Fred Bassett would consider an all new seven, the Golden retriever, GCH CH Summits Emery It’s In the Bag, the Norwegian Elkhound, GCH CH Aspens A Hard Act To Follow, the Siberian Husky, GCH CH Ziemaboras Strut Your Stuff, the Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier, CH Shandalee Fireworks, the Papillon, GCH CH Brevette Kid Incredible, the Bichon Frise, GCH CH PaRay Power & Privilege, and the Shetland Sheepdog, GCH CH PaRay Preferential.

BIS went to the Golden, Chloe, and RBIS to the Sheltie, Satoshi.  It’s the sixth BIS in 25 final appearances this year for Chloe and breeder/owner/handler Beth Johnson.

The Cambridge Minnesota Kennel Club took over on Saturday and put judge Fay Strauss in the final ring with the Golden, Chloe, the Bloodhound, Borus Breaking News, the Samoyed, GCH CH Samkotas Hushabye Baby, the Australian Terrier, Scout, the Blenheim & Prince Charles English Toy Spaniel, GCH CH LTO Prosperity, the previously seen Bichon, Dominick, and the Sheltie, Satoshi.  It was Scout taking home the big rosette and the Bichon, Dominick, with the Reserve ribbon.  It’s the first BIS for Scout and the first this year for an Australian Terrier.  Congratulations to breeder/owner Theresa Goiffon, co-breeder Ellie Goiffon, and owners Tim & Jane Steinmetz.

The Toller, Flash, would collect his second BIS of the set at Sunday’s closer.  Joining him in Bob Schreve’s final were the Saluki, CH Blue Nile Special Keeper, the above named Bernese, the Australian Terrier, Pom, & Keeshond, and Reserve winner, the Border Collie,  GCH CH Sporting Fields Heiress Hsas.  That makes three BIS in seven final appearances this year.  All three BIS have come in the last five weeks.

EIGHT SHOWS IN VIRGINIA

If you are lucky enough to live in Virginia, you have been able to get to eight shows in the last two weeks.  It all started on Saturday in Richmond VA with the Virginia Kennel Club.  Dennis McCoy had the day one final and the company of the Flat-Coat Retriever, GCH CH Meadowrue Knight Of Quillquest, the Wirehaired Dachshund, CH Rivendells Hotwire SW, the Boxer, GCH CH Hi Tech The King of Sherry Shoot Jp, the Norfolk Terrier, GCH CH Yarrow Venerie Ticket to Ride, the Pug, GCH CH Hill Country's Tag I'm It, the Tibetan Spaniel, GCH CH Kan Sing's Tenzin, and the German Shepherd Dog, GCH CH Karizma’s Ike of Edale,

Taking the opener was the Norfolk, rider, followed by the Pug, JJ.  Rider is the country’s Number One Norfolk Terrier, and the Number Six Terrier, with two BIS and 27 Terrier Groups.

Sunday’s day two VKC final fell to Dr Anthony DiNardo who saw the Pointer, CH Black Alder Archer Mayor, the Rhodesian Ridgeback, GCH CH Camelot's Ventura Adventure, the Boxer, CH Camelot's Ventura Adventure, the Norfolk, Rider, the Pug, JJ, the Bichon Frise, GCH CH Overtops And The Winner Is, and the Old English Sheepdog, GCH CH Masquerade Mikey Likes It.

Dr DiNardo would like the Bichon, LJ, for his Best and the Norfolk, Rider, for the Reserve.  We have many good Bichons out this year.  LJ is the Number Three Bichon and Number 12 Non-Sporting Dogs with two BIS in eight final appearances.

The hardcore exhibitors came back on Monday for the Gloucester Kennel Club Of Virginia first for two shows.  At the end of the day the seven who entered Desmond Murphy’s BIS ring were the Weimaraner, GCH CH Unity's Bzyfeet Laverne Defazio, the Afghan Hound, GCH CH Tells Matrix Reloaded, the Boxer from Saturday’s final, King, the Norfolk, Rider, the Pug, JJ, the Bichon, LJ, and the Bearded Collie, CH Ha'penny Mirimar The Fab Fawn.

Judge Murphy preferred the Afghan, Matrix, to the Pug, JJ, whom he preferred to the remaining five.  Matrix has six BIS and 30 Hound Groups, good enough to make him the Number Four Hound this year.

Tuesday Matrix, the Boxer, King, the Pug, JJ, and the OES, Mikey would all be back to try their luck with BIS judge Norm Kenney.  Joining them were the American Water Spaniel, CH CA-Beavercreek's Best Kept Secret RN, the American Staffordshire Terrier, CH An Garda Deja Vu Looking at You, and the Bulldog, CH Imperious HamItUp Southern Bell.

It was the Boxer, King taking home the final big rosette of the stop.  Reserve would go to the two year old AmStaff.  It’s the third BIS in 12 final attempts for Kind and handler Diego Garcia.

The fun in Richmond would continue on Friday with the Southern Maryland Kennel Club’s day one show.    Joining Dr Robert Smith’s final were the Irish Setter, CH Crimsonacre Wind Chime, the Treeing Walker Coonhound, GCH CH Alexanders Gold Rush Xcetera, the Boxer, CH  Jacquet's Anne El Encanto , the Norfolk, Rider, the Pug, JJ, the Miniature Poodle, GCH CH Bellefleets Living In The Fast Lane, and the Shetland Sheepdog, GCH CH Suncrest Cerulean.

Taking the opening BIS was the Miniature Poodle, Laney.  Collecting the RBIS was the five year old Setter.  It’s the first for Laney and handler Paul Clas.  Congratulations to Paul, breeder Sally Jordan, and owners William Lee & Alysia Reichertz.

The Pug, JJ, would be the only of Friday’s finalists  to make it to Hal Biermann’s BIS ring on Saturday.  Joining JJ was the Vizsla, GCH CH Regal Point Pinnacle Of Kilauea JH, the Afghan, Matrix, the Akita, GCH CH CR Trader’s Secret, the Skye Terrier, GCH CH Cragsmoor Good Time Charlie, the Bichon Frise, GCH CH Vogelflight’s “Honor” to Pillowtalk, and the Puli, GCH CH Cordmaker Rumpus Bumpus.

The Skye, Charlie, took home the big rosette, while the Pug, JJ played bridesmaid one more time.  Our Dog2Watch Charlie has six BIS in just eight final appearances this year.

The rest of the stop would go to the country’s Number Two Dog, the Portuguese Water Dog, GCH CH Claircreek Impression de Matisse.  On Sunday Matisse would be Polly Smith’s choice for Best.  Her Reserve award went to the Welsh Terrier, GCH CH Shaireab Bayleigh Maid of Honor.  Also seeking a rosette were the English Cocker Spaniel, CH Foxwood's Dublin Diva, the Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen, GCH CH Celestial CJ's All's Well That Ends Well, the Pug, JJ, the Bichon, Honor, and the now familiar Puli, Ziggy.

Dr Carol White-Moser had the closer and chose Matisse over her runner up, the Wirehaired  Dachshund, GCH CH Legibach Captain Crunch SW, the above named Irish Setter,  Welsh Terrier,  Pug, Bichon, Honor, and Beardie.

The two wins will bring Matisse’s 2013 take to 37 BIS the most of any dog in the US.
