Welcome to Dog Show Poop’s annual Garden Party. I am Billy Wheeler, DSP’s founder/publisher/editor. Come in and say hello and let’s watch the world’s greatest dog show!
ReplyDeleteFirst up tonight is judge Sam Houston McDonald’s Sporting Group. Three of my picks made it out of the breed and will appear tonight. 2013’s Number One Sporting Dog, the Irish Water Spaniel, GCH CH Whistlestop’s Riley on Fire, the Number Two Dog, the Clumber Spaniel, GCH CH Clussexx Collaboration with Traddles, and the Field Spaniel, GCH CH Promenade Pay It Forward.
ReplyDeleteMy fourth pick, the Pointer, GCH CH Chesterhope State of T Art, was defeated in the breed.
ReplyDeleteOne surprise entry was 2011's Number One Dog All Breeds, the Black Cocker Spaniel, GCH CH Casablanca's Thrilling Seduction. Beckham is the Number Two Sporting Dog of all time, but never won Westminster or the AKC/Eukanuba National Championship.
ReplyDeleteHi Billy.
ReplyDeleteIn the Working Group, I had hoped to see last year's Number Two Dog, the Doberman, FiFi. However, FiFi was walked out of Dr Robert Indeglia's breed ring without a ribbon today. One year it's licks, the next it's kicks in the knees.
ReplyDeleteOne year it's kicks, the next it's kicks in the knees.
ReplyDeleteHi, MillValleyGirl,
ReplyDeleteDid you watch any of the live streaming today?
Yes, lots. Lots of terriers, several working breeds and sporting, too. Just 2 devices, though. Especially liked the Westie selections (my own breed).
DeleteIn addition to the picks I've stated I also like the Brittany and the Chessie.
ReplyDeleteThis Pointer was bred by the same breeder as my pick.
ReplyDeleteThe Golden competition was brutal with more than one BIS winning Golden left in the breed.
ReplyDeleteMost owners of pet labs would not recognize a lab show dog
ReplyDeleteKiki was one of several BIS winning English Setters competing today
ReplyDeleteSurprisingly, the British Kennel Club has the English Setter on their "At Risk" list with less than 200 registrations last year. Imagine no English Setters in England. Thank you PETA
ReplyDeleteSeymour was born in the US, but spent part of his earlier years in Colombia
ReplyDeleteBeckham looks pretty good
ReplyDeleteEver notice just how different the Black Cockers are from the ASCOB & Parti?
ReplyDeleteThe judge in English Cockers today had five of the blondes at the front of his line in the breed
ReplyDeleteThis Springer started the year with back2back BIS
ReplyDeleteThe IWS won the Sporting Group in Orlando
ReplyDeleteNice movement on the Weimaraner
ReplyDeleteHi Bill! unfortuatly, I've been driving all over town and can't find a place to watch :'( I really Hope to find somewhere before best in show
ReplyDeleteOK, time for picks. I still favor the Irish Water Spaniel & Clumber, but I think Beckham will have a spot in the top four as will the Field Spaniel.
ReplyDeleteThat's the English Cocker, David, not the ASCOB
ReplyDeleteIWS, Black Cocker, Golden, Eng Springer
ReplyDeleteIrish Water Spaniel, GCH CCH Whistlestop’s Riley on Fire
ReplyDeleteBlack Cocker Spaniel, GCH CH Casablanca’s Thrilling Seduction
Golden Retriever, GCCH CH Kalm Sea's To Have And To Hold
English Springer Spaniel, CH Telltale American Ride
The contracts Westminster has with CNBC and USA don't allow alternative broadcasts, but more and more people do not have cable TV. My son got rid of his last year. His family gets what they want on Netflix & Hulu
ReplyDeleteAs much as I love my 47" HD TV, the breed judging on my daughter's min iPad was awesome.
ReplyDeleteThe Portuguese Water Dog will be almost unbeatable in the Working Group. He stood out like a beacon in today's breed ring
ReplyDeleteMatisse has been out 16 time this year and won 14 BIS, one RBIS, & one Group Two. The dog that beat him in that Group was the Akita, GCH CH CR-Wicca's Trade Secret, who will be in the group tonight.
ReplyDeleteHi Billy, Please evaluate Nathan's (Bloodhound) Chances for us Tonight. A lot of Bloodhound Owners Think its time that a Blood wins..Thanks
ReplyDeleteAnother of my picks is the imposing Mastiff, GCH CH Willow Ridge Risky Business
ReplyDeleteBoth the Alaskan Malamute and Siberian are possible spoilers.
ReplyDeleteTerrier specialist judge Clay Coady has favored Boxers, Dobermans, & Rottweilers when judging the Working group
ReplyDeleteFinally found somewhere! :) Let's see how the working group wraps up!
ReplyDeleteNathan is a great Bloodhound, but probably won't be able to overcome the records that the IWS, Portie, Wire, & Poodle bring into the ring tonight
ReplyDeleteI don't think the BIS judge has seen Nathan before.
ReplyDeleteI take credit for predicting that Nathan would be a favorite in the Hound Group. I too think that Bloodhounds and all the scent hounds should get more respect
ReplyDeleteCarrisa had another great Doberman at Westminster a few years back CJ. It was CJ who stared down the PR=ETA protestors who stormed the ring. She did not flinch when the chareged the ring, but stood her ground.
ReplyDeleteSorry PETA
ReplyDeleteThis pattern in the Great Dane is called "mantle". It's the first time a "mantel" Dane has won the breed here.
ReplyDeleteBeat you David. lol
ReplyDeleteLast year I was exploring Dwarf Nigerian Dairy Goats. All five of the goat breeders I contacted had Great Pyrenees as livestock dogs
ReplyDeleteThis Greater Swiss is a multi BIS winner
ReplyDeleteRissa's dobe is a CJ daughter.
ReplyDeleteMy longtime readers will know that I broke the story about the Obamas; dog six weeks ahead of the mainstream press.
ReplyDeleteThe first time I stepped into show ring was with the family's pet Saint
ReplyDeleteThat's Cookie and his handler, Snookie
ReplyDeletethe Siberian, Fizzy, is a multi BIS winner
ReplyDeleteI did not see anything to beat the Portie, did you all?
ReplyDeleteI say Portie, Akita, Mastiff, & Malamute
ReplyDeleteWell three for four
ReplyDeletePortuguese Water Dog, GCH CH Claircreek’s Impression de Matisse
ReplyDeletePortuguese Water Dog, GCCH CH Claircreek's Impression de Matisse
Mastiff, GCH CH Willow Ridge Risky Business
Akita, GCH CH CR-Wicca’s Trade Secret
Boxer, CH Brisbane N Blue Monday's Diamonds Are Decadent
That was expected, next up my favorite group! Let's see if Sky will take the group this time. But there are many good terriers in too.
ReplyDeleteMost of the favorites got through in the Terrier Group. My picks are the Wire Fox, GCH CH AfterAll Painting the Sky, the Russell, GCH CH Goldsands Columbus, the Welsh Terrier, GCH CH Shaireab's Maid of Honor, & the Skye, GCH CH Cragsmoor Good Time Charlie.
ReplyDeleteSuperstar handler,Gabriel Rangel also has the BSI winning Cairn, GCH CH Hjohoo's Save Hjour Love For Me, who won a big BIS in Portland last month and the Scottish Terrier, GCH CH Roundtown Everyday Magic Of Maryscot, daughter of the 2010 BIS winner
ReplyDeleteWe think "Nathan" is the best looking Blood since Knotty But you may be right. The PWD looked Great and has had a Great Year, but we're hoping for a upset..:)
ReplyDeleteOther BIS winning dogs to watch are the Border Terrier, GCH cH Meadowlake Simply Sinful, who had a Group Three last year, the Norfolk Terrier, GCH CH Yarrow Venerie Ticket To Ride, and the Miniature Schnauzer, GCH CH Allaruth Just Kidding v Sole Baye
ReplyDeleteThis Smooth is a BIS winner. Her father won the group here twice
ReplyDeleteWe have a lot of Californian Terriers in teh Californian judge's ring
ReplyDeleteGlad to see some Terrier-tude in the ring tonight
ReplyDeleteI love this Russell. He is everything I look for in a Terrier
ReplyDeleteMagic, like her mother, can be difficult in the ring
ReplyDeleteThis breeder doen't often show outside the Pacific Northwest. She has great Wheatens
ReplyDeleteThis Welsh gets better every time I see it
ReplyDeleteNice Westie
ReplyDeleteOK, let's hear your picks
ReplyDeletejudge Schwartz currently breeds Welsh, but Schnauzers were his original breed
ReplyDeleteI can't believe he pulled the mini bull over the welsh
ReplyDeleteWire, Skye, border, & russell
ReplyDeleteWire Fox Terrier, GCH CH AfterAll Painting the Sky
ReplyDeleteSkye Terrier, GCH CH Cragsmoor Good Time Charlie
Border Terrier, GCH CH Meadowlake Simply Sinful
Rusell Terrier, GCH CH Goldsands Columbus
So ready for best in show!
ReplyDeleteOur final seven dogs will have won hundreds of BIS among them
ReplyDeleteThe Portie, the Wire, the MinPin, & the Standard Poodle all have more than 100 career Bests each.
ReplyDeletethe IWS, The Portie and the MinPin are the top winning dogs in history for their breeds.
ReplyDeleteThe question is that the best Irish Water Spaniel, Bloodhound, Portuguese Water Dog, Wire Fox Terrier, Miniature Pinscher, Standard Poodle, or Cardigan Welsh Corgi you have ever seen?
ReplyDeleteI think three of the seven, the IWS, the Portie, & the MinPin have legitimate claims on that
ReplyDeleteThere's a Group of us In SC That are hoping for a Upset! But the BIS Judge doesn't look like a Hound Person...LOL
ReplyDeleteI would be happy to see any of these seven go BIS. The Wynn Casino has the Portie first and the Wire second.
ReplyDeleteJudge Leninger is the epitome of southern class
ReplyDeleteThe crowd loves Nathan!
ReplyDeleteNathan gets a second look!
ReplyDeleteNot a faulty performance among them. This will be tough
ReplyDeleteWire Fox!
ReplyDeleteMany will be disappointed and many will be pleased. I am just happy to be part of it! Thank you all for joining me! See you at the shows!
ReplyDeleteI was going for her! :) now she has the triple crown! Congrats Sky! Still surprised Matisse didn't get reserve at least
ReplyDeleteThanks for hosting this Bill! :) first time watching westminster live and it was great!
