To most Americans California is a vast hedonistic strip of
ocean front property populated by trendy, tanned beautiful people in the
southern state and urbane, politically correct activists in the northern
state. However, the heart of the state
can be found on the other side of the coastal ridge in the vast valleys that
stretch from the Mexican border to the Oregon state line. Populated by the grandchildren of immigrants
from all over the world and the US, it is the part of the state in which one
can find someone who shares more with the rest of the US than residents of San
Francisco or Los Angeles do.
