Back in 1971, after finishing college, we moved to New York, leaving behind our first show dog, the family’s St Bernard. After a year of dogless apartment dwelling, we decided we had to have a dog to share our new urban existence and acquired a Maltese puppy from the lovely Gwen Holbrook of Gwenbrook Dobermans and Maltese in Glen Cove NY out on the Island. We showed Maltese in New York and California for the next seven years.
To this day we love to see a Maltese go BIS, floating like a cloud amongst the larger dogs. Yesterday in Traverse City MI, the Maltese, CH Seabreeze Caribbean Sun Calling, was June Penta’s Best at the Grand Traverse Kennel Club show. Sunny’s six larger competitors were the Golden Retriever, CH Summmits Emery It’s In The Bag, the American Foxhound, CH Devlon’s Fame And Fortune, the Great Pyrenees, CH Elridge’s First Reign, the Wire Fox Terrier, Aljamar Dealin With The Devil, the French Bullodg, CH Evergreen’s Lavish Looks, and the Old English Sheepdog, CH Lambluv Gambolon Blue Thunder. It’s Sunny’s second all breed Best In Show this year. Congratulations to breeder/owner Sandy Bingham-Porter and handler Daryl Martin.
