Dog Show Poop is one year old today. We introduced ourselves to you all on August 27, 2008 in our post, Dog Show Junkie. Initially we expected this to be a typical personal blog where we could indulge ourselves with weekly stories about our newly acquired Cairn puppy and our visits to our local AKC conformation shows. However, we quickly became fascinated with last year’s top ten dogs and their race to the end of the year. As the months wore on we began to see some opportunities to provide the dog show going public with some canine coverage not available elsewhere. Here’s a timeline with some of the innovations we have implemented during the past year:
- 30 Sep 08...Real Time Top Ten Rankings
- 13 Dec 08...Real Time Breed/Group Wins (with photos) from the AKC/Eukanuba National Championship
- 23 Dec 08...Our Own National & Regional Ranking System
- 02 Jan 09...We begin reporting every BIS & Group winner at every AKC all breed show.
- 08 Jan 09...DOGS2WATCH, We create a designation for dogs we think will be winning in the future.
- 02 Feb 09...We break the story that a Portuguese Water Dog will be the First Pooch. That’s right. We had the story six weeks before anyone else.
- 04 Feb 09...What To Watch for at Westminster (WWW), Group by Group handicapping
- 09&10 Feb 09...The most complete Westminster coverage anywhere, Real Time Breed Wins (with photos) and an interactive Garden Party during the Group and BIS judging. We receive 25,000 hits during the two day Garden coverage.
We now average 1,000 hits a day from 120 countries on six continents. We believe our success is mostly due to the participatory nature of the blog. We are basically a one man operation. However, we do rely, in large part, on the dozens of loyal readers who contribute show reports and background stories to share with you all. We hope that we can continue to bring you the features you want in a dog site. Because we want to bring you the most objective reporting, we accept no paid advertising from exhibitors, breeders, or handlers.
We hope to keep improving the blog and offering you more of what you want. In the coming months we will be getting out more while we show our Cairn and hope to meet more of our readers. We have already booked our flights to Philadelphia PA for the Montgomery County Kennel Club show in October and to Long Beach CA for the AKC/Eukanuba National Championship in December. Our heartfelt thanks to all who have made contributions to these pages over the last year and our everlasting gratitude to all of our readers. You have made all this past year worth the work!
