WPVI-TV Philadelphia is reporting that the Sealyham Terrier, CH Efbe’s Hidalgo AT Goodspice, has been retired after winning Best In Show at the world’s largest dog show, Crufts, this past weekend in Birmingham, England.
The five year old dog, known to all his fans as “Charmin”, is the top winning Sealyham in the history of the breed and one of the most recognizable show dogs in the world. He has won the AKC/ Eukanuba National Championship here in the US, the World Dog Show In Sweden, and the aforementioned Crufts Dog Show in England. He has been extensively campaigned throughout the United States, finishing in the top ten dogs all breeds in 2007 and 2008 as the top scoring Terrier. Charmin has garnered a remarkable 94 AKC all breed BIS, BIS at the 2008 Montgomery Kennel Club all Terrier show, and a Group One at the 2008 Westminster Kennel Club show.
Charmin at Crufts
As impressive as his show record has been, he has been an equally impressive ambassador for our fancy, appearing all over the world, “charming” everyone he met. Having shared our home with one for twelve years, we admit to having a soft spot for Sealyhams. It is one of the rarest of the AKC breeds. There are fewer Sealyham Terriers in the world than Polar Bears, Lowland Gorillas, or Grey Whales. Charmin has shown millions of people what wonderful animals Sealyhams are.
Our heartfelt thanks to Charmin’s breeder Frances Bergeron for producing this handsome guy, owners Margery & Richard Good & Sandra Middlebrooks for working tirelessly to share him with all of his fans worldwide, and a special thanks to handler Margery Good for taking such good care of Charmin. He was always presented flawlessly, in perfect condition, and exhibiting the epitome of Terrier good spirits. Farewell Charmin. We all will miss you.
What a wonderful send off to a truely wonderful team.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great dog!
ReplyDeleteI will miss seeing Margery and Charmin. He made me fall in love with Sealyhams. I sat with about 10 of them waiting to show last year in California and loved seeing how playful they were. Should I ever add to my Westie brood, this is the breed I'd look at. I also love hearing about them. Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteI wish they would go for 100 BIS's but I understand. What a marvelous team. The dog show world was blessed with this team and they will be greatly missed! I can't wait to see what Margery has in store for us next.! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat wonderful representatives of the dog world. We are so impressed with Charmin and his team. It has been exciting to compete against you. We wish you the best!

(This is from the "Charmin wins Crufts" entry)
ReplyDeleteSo it is official he's retired.Well I wouldn't count him out*Cites the victory of stump who was the oldest dog to take Westminster*(Unless Margery has plans for a castration for him, then that's another story).
Charmin was the reason I gave a damn about dogshows in the first place. The moment I saw him Thanksgiving day 2007 I was hooked.
He was one of a kind.No Sealy will rival him.Not his children, his grandchildren, or his great-grandchildren.Not even his brother, Merci.
This is a sad day for dogshows on this planet.
Billy you must do a separate post on this.
P.S I'm still looking for people for my Charmin Fan page http://cornflower.forumotion.net/charmin-fans-forum-f19/?sid=24b86efeafce22dba30a541a26c8702e
The chemistry between Margery and Charmin was something very special and I'll really miss seeing him in the ring.
ReplyDeleteHe can move and reach like no other terrier I have ever seen.
A toast to Charmin!
Can we have a lap of honor please? :)
I got the fan page published
