IT'S THE BOXER IN PORTLAND

They’ve closed the doors at the Portland Kennel Club show tonight and we have the results from Sari Tietjen’s final.

CH Duba Dae’s Who’s Your Daddy

Lining up for consideration were the Irish Setter, CH Ashton Peaceful Easy Feeling, the Whippet, CH Starline Chanel, the Boxer, CH Duba Dae’s Who’s Your Daddy, the Smooth Fox Terrier, CH Warfox Double Exposure, the Havanese, CH Bellatak My Funny Valentine, the Standard Poodle, CH Brighton Lakeridge Summer In The Hamptons, and the Belgian Tervuren, CH CH Sky Acres Spy Plane.

BIS went to the Boxer, Bosco, his fourth this year. This year’s Boxers are living up to their name as they slug it out for superiority this year. The number one Boxer has a sizable lead, but the two through five spots are anyone’s guess.

BOO IS BIS IN WISCONSIN

CH Tupelo ShoBoat Tu China Tu

You can’t keep a good dog down. After a few weeks without a big rosette, the Pug, CH Tupelo ShoBoat Tu China Tu is back in the BIS column with a top win at today’s Paper Cities Kennel Club show in Weston WI. This win comes courtesy of judge Houston Clark. Boo entered the weekend as the country’s number two Toy Dog, but may end the weekend as number one. Check back with us next week to see.

SAINTLY SPECIALTY

Once again while we were awaiting some all breed show results, a thoughtful reader provided us with this. Yesterday at the Willamette Valley St. Bernard Club specialty Donna Buxton tapped CH Alta Visa’s Billion Kilowatt as her BISS. Kilo, who weighs a few kilos, was the number one Saint in 2008 and is the number one Saint so far this year. Kilo was piloted to the win by Erin Hines.

Erin is an associate of Saint Bernard specialist Billy Buell, Billy missed Kilo’s win as he spent most of Friday undergoing back surgery. He awoke to find Kilo had won another Specialty. We wish Billy a speedy recovery annd offer our congratulations to breeders Thomas & Viola Brown and Skee & Shirly Tsagris, Robert A. Bonito, Esq, co-owner of Kilo with the Browns, and handler Erin Hines. You did know that our first time in the ring was with the family’s pet Saint?

WHAT'S SADIE'S SECRET?

Well we’ve heard from Houston where the Scottish Terrier, CH Roundtown Mercedes Of Maryscot, started the weekend with a dress rehearsal at yesterday’s Scottish Terrier Club of Greater Houston picking up the BISS from Charlotte Clem McGowan. She followed that with a BIS courtesy of Jon Cole at today’s Houston Kennel Club all breed show. As Sadie continues her Sherman-like march to the national championship, we offer the above photo of Sadie with The Dog Whsiperer, Casesar Milan at last Saturday’s Austin Kennel Club show . You think maybe Caesar’s asking what her secret is?

WEBBER TAKES WARMUP

While we’re waiting to hear from Houston, here’s something to hold you over. We’ve just heard that judge Ken Buxton today named DOG2WATCH, CH Avalons Frontier Sleepnlady Webber, BISS in the Columbia Bouvier des Flandres Club’s warmup for tomorrow’s Portland Kennel Club all breed show. We Wish Webber and handler Larry Fenner luck in this weekend’s festivities.

FINAL DULUTH RESULTS FINALLY

We don’t know why we are just getting the results from the Duluth (MN) Kennel Club’s four day outing last week. After all they could have put the results on an ox cart and got them to AKC before this. Nonetheless, superintendent Jack Onofrio has published these results.

CH Hi-Kel Terrydale Soldier Of Fortune

You may recall that we did tell you that the Lakeland Terrier,CH Hi-Kel Terrydale Soldier Of Fortune, left her native Texas to an invading horde of nationally ranked dogs and sacked the northern regions of Minnesota, seizing all four BIS available. Here are the finalists that watched her pillage their village.

On Thursday, Eugene Blake saw the Golden Retriever, CH Avalor’s INXS, the American Foxhound, CH Devlon’s Fame And Fortune, the Kuvasz, Szumeria’s Wildwood Silver Six Pence, the Yorkshire Terrier, CH Stringer’s Something Got To Give, the Keeshond, CH Daimer’s Caviar Dreams, and the Border Collie, CH Sportingfield’s Reflections O Borderframe.

Friday, Ranger’s fellow finalists in Jon Cole’s ring were the Golden, the Foxhound, the Kees, the Akita, Buckridge Posative Energy, the Havanese, CH Bellatak My Funny Valentine, and the Bouvier des Flandres, CH Limerick’s Shakespeare. Saturday, Michele Billings runners-up were the Golden, the Foxhound, Thursday’s Border Collie, the Rottweiler, CH Cammcastle’s Friar Tuck, the Smooth Coat Chihuahua, CH Yuum Gomez, and the Miniature Poodle, CH Amity Mystical Horizon’s Heaven Sent.

Closing it out Sunday with judge James Reynold were the German Wirehaired Pointer, Ch Ripsnorter’s Mt View Lookout, the Whippet, CH Sportingfield’s Bahama Sands, and the previously cited Kuvasz, Havanese, Miniature Poodle, & Border Collie.

It may not have matched the heat of San Antonio, but it was still a grand group of AKC champions.

FEWER SHOWS THIS WEEKEND

We have far fewer show opportunities this coming weekend than the last two, with 30 fewer shows this coming weekend than last. Happiily, we have one stop that is one of the premier weekends of the season.

Houston TX

Down in Houston, there will be over 7,500 dogs in competition over three days starting Friday hosted by the Houston, Beaumont, Galveston County Kennel Clubs. Adding to the fun are 24 specialty shows on Thursday. Another large entry is expected at the Portland (OR) Kennel Club’s two shows this weekend, with 2,000 plus dogs both Saturday and Sunday. Again several breed specialties will preceded the main events.

The remaining offerings are limited to traditional two day fare in just four locales, New York metro (Stormville NY) the aptly named Centre Hall PA in central PA, Medina OH, and Weston WI. So even though we can’t have quantity, we can have quality. They are all AKC dog shows.

CH Brighton Lakeridge Summer In The Hamptons

If you have been following us this week, you know that the theme of the week was repeat winner. We had several dogs do back to back BIS, hat tricks, one even managed a four show sweep. Well, the Standard Poodle, CH Brighton Lakeridge Summer In The Hamptons (and of course, this is a west coast dog) jumped on the bandwagon with back2back Bests.

On Saturday, her fellow finalists were the Golden Retriever, CH Rush Hill’s River Road Payoff, the Saluki, CH Shadaglen Thunder Mtn Fidler, the Siberian Husky, CH Koobear Spill The Beans, the Smooth Fox Terrier, CH Lil’Stich Circus Legacy, the Toy Fox Terrier, CH Valcopy Hannah Montana, and the Australian Shepherd, CH Whidbey’s Moonlight Frost RA.

CH Polo’s The Aviator

Sunday, she had all new dance partners, the English Springer Spaniel, CH Oxbows On To Silverado, the Afghan Hound, CH Polo’s The Aviator, the Newfoundland, CH Bigdogfarm Hannibals Mr Moses, the Scottish Terrier, CH McVan’s Trip TheLight Fantastic, the Silky Terrier, CH Wyncliff Tawny Mist Tumtress, and the Old English Sheepdog, CH Snowdowne Platinum Promise.

Unfortunately we don’t know a lot about this three year old, but we do know this. She is handled by Timothy Brazier, the same handler that did such an outstanding job with the Standard Poodle, CH Randenn Tristar Affirmation. Our congratulations to Tim and breeders/owners Debra Ferguson-Jones & L'Dyne Brennan.

REGION SIX RESULTS #1

Moving out to Region Six where there were three far flung sites going. First let’s catch you up on the Del Monte Kennel Club show in Carmel CA.

CH Smokycity Silhouette Dbl Ur Pleasure

We gave you a complete report on Saturday’s show, but here’s Sunday’s action. Joan Sutton was the lucky judge who got to go to Carmel for a BIS assignment. Frosting on the cake was the chance to see the Weimaraner, CH Smokycity Silhouette Dbl Ur Pleasure, the Petit Bassett Griffon Vendeen, CH Soletrader Donald Duck, the Alaskan Malamute, CH Catanya's Latin Lover, the Kerry Blue Terrier, CH Perrisblu Paris, the Brussels Griffon, CH Cashin' Walk The Line, the American Eskimo Dog, CH Smokey Mtn Trader Pup, and the Bouvier des Flandres, CH Avalons Frontier Sleepnlady Webber. Her BIS was the Weimaraner, Wrigley. It was her second BIS this year.

CH Mojo's Rock'n Your World

Further north in Shelkton WA the Nisqually Kennel Club hosted a two day fete. On Saturday it was Mary Ellen Compagnon taking the helm and reviewing the Flat-Coated Retriever, CH Feathurquest Moonlight Sonata, the Saluki, CH Carmas Indian Summer, the Akita, CH Mojo's Rock'n Your World, the Border Terrier, CH Jen-Lar Secret Warrior Of Marlyn, the Silky Terrier, CH Bar-B's Tawnymist Topias, the Miniature Poodle, CH Poof’s Divalicious, and the Belgian Tervuren, CH Sky Acres Flying Solo.

BIS was the country’s number one Akita, Coupe. Coupe hs been on a roll lately picking up three BIS in the last month.

CH Doubloon's Ultimate Player

On Sunday, the Saliuki, Akita and Tervuren would be back to see Jeffrey Pepper. His remaining finalists were the Irish Water Spaniel, CH Stanegate Supertramp, the Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier, CH Doubloon's Ultimate Player, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, CH Creekside Just For Keeps, and the Bulldog, CH Legacy Empress Of The Copa. His BIS went to the Saluki. Congratulations to breeder/owner Lyndell Ackerman, co-breeder M. Stoner-Townsend and handler Don Rogers.

REGION FIVE RESULTS

Much of the glamour and drama this week was in Region Five, San Antonio TX to be specific. Among the competitors were seven of the country’s top twenty dogs. We did give you complete results of days one through four, but left you hanging on Sunday.

While you know that the Scottish Terrier, CH Roundtown Mercedes Of Maryscot, went BIS yesterday, you have not heard about Frank Sabelaa’s other finalists. They were the Irish Setter, CH Vineyard's Bad Boy, the Longhaired Dachshund, CH Sunteckel's Samuel II, the Alaskan Malamute, CH Sno Klassic's Play The Game, the Affenpinscher, CH Tamarin Tug, the Standard Poodle, CH Donnchada Sweet Dreams, and the Rough Collie, CH Sylvan Argent Simply Irresistible.

Elsewhere in Region five their were shows in Mississippi and Colorado. The Greater Shelby Kennel Clkub in Southaven MS is really a Memphis show with the show grounds just over the city/state line. As such it is literally in my back yard. We did make a visit to the show grounds and were pleased to see our axiom about great dogs at every AKC show proven out. We did tell you about some of the weekend’s results, but here are the rest.

CH Polar Mist X-Tasy

On Saturday, the BIS winner, the Basset Hound, CH Topsfield-Sanchu American Express, was challenged by the Pointer, CH Sankris Thats My Boy, the Samoyed, CH Polar Mist X-Tasy, the Miniature Schnauzer, CH Awesomes Kiss My Gritz, the Pekingese, CH Franshaw Hear Me Roar, the Keeshond, CH Lil Havens Let Freedom Ring, and the Polish Lowland Sheepdog, CH Sasquehanna Malinnik Ponadto. Sunday’s last ring included the previously reported BIS winner, the Smooth Collie, CH Sunnlands Grand Entrance HICs, Saturday finalists the Basset, the Samoyed, Schnauzer, & Peke and the Spinone Italiano, Sharpshot Aris, and the Chinese Shar-Pei, CH Elites By Design.

CH Nashem’s He’s The Man Of Woodmoor

Region Five is geographically large and our next stop is some 1200 miles from Memphis, in Eagle CO where the Roaring Fork Kennel Club passed two pleasant days. Saturday’s final was overseen by Houston Clark and included the Pointer, CH Tahari’s To Wild To Be Serious, the Harrier, Happytails Keppin The Faith, the Bernese Mountain Dog, CH Nashem’s He’s The Man Of Woodmoor, the West Highland White Terrier, CH Arbroath’s Rosewood Rise N Shine, the Pug, CH O’Day Mystical Klondike, the Chow-Chow, CH Dreamland’s Light Up The Sky, and the Old English Sheepdog, CH Bugaboo’s Georgie Girl. His Best In Show was the Bernese, Angus. It’s Angus’ third BIS this year and his second in two weeks.

CH Calees The Skye Is The Limit

Sunday, Angus got stopped in the Working Group by the Matiff, CH Lexington Divine’s Let Me Sit In Coach, who joined Saturday finalists the Westie, the Pug, & the OES and the Labnrador Retriever, CH Sounder’s Slate Of Cedarbrook, the Bloodhound, CH Heather’s A Little Night Music, and the Bulldog, CH Calees The Skye Is The Limit.

Sunday turned out to be sour mug day with Linda Scanlon choosing the Bulldog, Skye, as her BIS. It was the first Group One and BIS this year for the three year old. Congratulations to breeders Jayme & Ryan Hubbart and owners Kyle Hennefer, C Plummer & J Winick. We’ll be back with Region Six results.
